Guidance for commuting on an ‘80s road bike: to rack or not to rack?

Guidance for commuting on an ‘80s road bike: to rack or not to rack?

I just picked up this 1986 Bianchi Formula 2 to both commute and for fun. Chromoly steel frame, whole thing was refurbished by a local bike shop.

I live in a humid, *humid* city and, in the summer, commuting with a backpack is going to *suck*. i’ve been interested in front basket use for a backpack and light runs to the corner store, but have read conflicting advice across biking subreddits about whether i should even try to install a rack…

Any advice on backpack solutions (not super keen on panniers…), rack recommendations for a bike without eyelets, etc. would be welcome.

‘86 Bianchi Formula 2 🌸

just picked up this refurbished 86 Bianchi formula 2 in some metallic lilac purple. haven’t found my info on it yet.

these are the ‘before’ pictures before this gets turned into a lil commute rocket with a front basket or something.

loving how this it feels so far.

Upgrade budget?

just picked up this vintage CCM from a local shop, and am looking to pour some money and TLC into it.

ive looked around on a few bike parts websites and am kinda overwhelmed by the range of prices. how much should i expect to pay to replace/upgrade the before pic into the after pic?

do people still do cat tax?
