An Update on Bosco

I spoke to Riverside Vet today and they confirmed Bosco did not make it. The family will be picking up his ashes this week so we left our number in case they want more information to file a police report or press charges.

My partner also gave one of the family members (not the owner) a detailed description of what happened at the scene.

Sending love to the family and holding my fur baby tight.

I emailed both @ilovetheupperwestside and West side rag. @ilovetheupperwestside believes the situation happened but wants an ofticial report before reporting anything. The West Side Rag has not gotten back to me.

We are going to keep pressing the MTA to find this guy and keep him off the streets for everyone's safety. These vehicles are weapons in the wrong hands, and the city doesn’t need drivers who don't value life or have patience. Safety should be every bus driver's number 1 priority, and should an accident happen, compassion must follow.

Bus hit dog 81st and Columbus

Earlier today, May 16 around 4:45 PM, my partner witnessed a horrific accident at 81st & Columbus, right near Riverside Veterinary Care.

A 30+ lb dog got loose from its owner, an elderly woman, and ran down the street heading from 81st toward 80th. Cars were slowing down, pulling over, and honking to avoid hitting the dog.

At the same time, a bus driver became angry that cars were pulling into his lane (for said dog). Witnesses were yelling and screaming for him to stop, but instead he accelerated. The bus ran over the dog with all three sets of wheels on the right side of the vehicle and continued driving without stopping.

I understand accidents happen. Dogs get loose. Children run into streets. But to hit a large animal, hear people screaming, and continue driving is horrifying. Honestly, if that had been a child, the outcome would have been unthinkable.

My partner immediately ran to Riverside Vet, banged on the door, and the staff rushed outside and brought the dog into the back. The injuries were extremely severe, and my partner hopes the dog did not suffer.

The owner was absolutely devastated. Several families with small children also witnessed the accident but left shortly afterward.

The incident was reported to MTA NYC Buses/Subways. Report number: 07457389.

If anyone else witnessed what happened, please call 511 and report it. Even if you only saw part of the incident, additional witness reports matter.
