Backyard Visitors in early morning light

Our hummingbird really needs to get moving South! Weather is great, but it can turn quickly. The sparrow in the tree is kinds of busy, but I liked the fall leaf colors. As you can see, he was yelling at me to get off the porch so he can hit the feeders!

Curious Finch

House finch snacking on my feeder, just checking to see if I am still a safe distance away. I was playing with the "3D Focus" setting on my camera. It isn't perfect, but it does work with some patience. I find that being zoomed in as tightly as possible helps. Nikon Z5ii with z180-600mm lens. Photo taken at 600mm with ISO720, F/6.3 and shutter 1/1250.

Barr Lake State Park Morning Walk 9/19

Taken 9/19 at Barr Lake State Park. The work being done on the dike along the wildlife walk has resulted in the loss of much habitat. It is going to take years to recover. Many Kestrel sightings today, along with (I think) a Prairie Falcon, Northern Harrier, Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker, Some colorful starlings, and a Cliff Swallow (?). Taken with a Nikon Z5ii and z180-600mm lens. Some shots also include 1.4X teleconverter.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal Birds

A few of the birds I saw today. The Red Tail is eating a snake. The duck's "take off" was fun to catch. I love this slice of wildlife right here in our Denver area. If you haven't visited, plan a trip and take your time - you never know what you might see.

Blue Grosbeak, Great Blue Heron, Black-billed Magpie, Red-tailed Hawk, and Mallard Duck.

Silverdale near Guanella Pass

Western warbling vireo, dark eyed junco,ruby-crowned kinglet, Wilson’s warbler, and broad-tailed hummingbird collecting spider webs for the nest. All challenging targets but patience paid off.

Near the entrance to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. They have shifted from one tree to the other and appear nearly ready to fledge. See them while you have a chance, then enjoy a drive in the Arsenal. There are many bison calves! Today they were near the very end of Wildlife Drive, as you approach the turn-off for Rattlesnake Hill.
