Are blind pups/terminated tips common?

I planted 5 segments of PC in a 25 gallon concrete pot in the shape of a hand reaching out of the soil. It exploded with 8 pups in total this summer. One of the pups was squished between the little finger and the ring finger of the San Pedro hand without much space to grow. This pup eventually grew to have a smooth growth tip. There was no obvious evidence of damage to the tip, so I assumed it just terminated on its own because it had no room. Now, it’s sending out a new pup from its highest areole.

Is this caused by the squish or could I have some cool new pc mutation that I should watch and eventually cut to propagate? I’ve just never seen one so smooth and undamaged.
