BSCSIE (Dual-degree Computer Science Program) QnA Board
Hi klasmeyts! I’m a Second-year BSCSIE dual degree student here in Adamson University and I would like to post here various common QnA questions that I wished I knew before enrolling at the program kasi there’s little to no information in the internet about this. If you have any more questions, don’t be afraid to ask me and I usually answer naman ^^
(1) What is the dual-degree program about?: BSCSIE is a joint dual-degree program between Adamson University and Minghsin University of Science and Technology (MUST) that was established back in 2023. It’s a five year-long program (2 years in the Philippines, 2 years in Taiwan, then another semester back here).
(2) What is the projected cost for this program?: This program is very expensive as you’ll be paying to study in another country even without considering the living expenses.
- 1st Year to 2nd Year : 70-80k~ (Per Semester)
- 3rd Year to 4th Year : 120-140k~ (Per Semester)
- 5th Year : 40-50k~ (Per Semester)
Please do note that this is just an estimated cost (WITHOUT LIVING EXPENSES) so pwede mas mababa or mas mataas ito*
(2.1) How about payment?: You could go all in OR anytime you can as long as you are able to pay it by the end of your term. You won’t be able to graduate as long as you have balance.
(2.2) Scholarships?: From what I’ve researched about, there’s a lack of support for joint programs such as this so it will really come out of your pocket. If you can find a private institution that offers financial aids for joint dual degree programs such as this one then go for it! But this is a really special case in a way that this program never meets the usual criteria for scholarships sadly :(
(3) Required Documents: Aside from the common documents like the NBI, PSA, and Passport, theres other documents that will be needed to be processed such as MOAs, important documents for TECO, and documents for MUST itself which will be discussed between your block section and the department’s chairperson. This is a particularly long process in which you will be processing it during your second year. *Note here is the show money (Proof of Financial Statement) is also really expensive (240k<) + 6 months of consistent transaction history so be wary of that.
(4) Why is it so expensive?: Aside from the fact that you’d be technically enrolling in two universities, mataas talaga costs ng insurance and other fees such as the international student fees and dormitory fees sa Taiwan. So given na yan.
(5) Is it worth it?: 50/50 It’s up to you talaga if you can work it out or not. Aside from the fact na there’s a language barrier, there’s also the perspective that theres limited to no opportunities for Filipino expats outside of laborous jobs such as factory work because of certain laws and required documents to hold down a job but yk that’s not the case here since you will be given opportunities that the common OFW won’t have ;) It’s a pay to win typa stuff. Personally? 100% g nako and my batch mates also agree. Kung magsasayang ka na lang ng pera, why not somewhere na mag eenjoy ka talaga. If you can afford it, then why not!
TLDR: Mahal, matrabaho, but the fruit is so sweet once u bear it. Kitakits sa campus klasmeyt, I hope you make the right decisions in the long run!
