Great couple of nights

Had a really nice chill camp with awesome sunrise/sunset on Thursday and just back from a wet & windy camp last night.
Checked weather and was supposed to be warm, dry and no wind. Lashed it down all night, wind really picked up and typically the one time I forget my rain jacket! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Got to see some gorgeous stags/deer and met a couple of lovely people out hiking. ☺️🏕️

Peak Problems

Wanted to get out for my first two night solo camp so set off for the Peaks after work Friday.

Plan was to camp up Kinder Fri and wing it Sat, but it all went pear shaped…😬
Went to cross a stream & fell in, both boots soaked through. Almost sacked it off then, but persevered and thought I’d try going up Red Brook. Ended up knee deep in a bog, again almost turned back, but kept going until I realised it was WAY too much of a scramble with my backpack. Turned back round and settled in for the night.

Woke up, boots still soaked and forgot my meal for Sat so headed back to the car with the intention of heading home. Made a brew and decided to let boots dry as much as possible, fresh socks on, taped my feet and headed up Kinder.💪

Glad I did as turned out to be such a nice evening and loved the challenge.🙂🏕️

Brokeback Mountain 2?

Cracking couple of nights out!

Took a mate out to a local spot for his first wild camp Friday. Steaks, beers, sharing stories and listening to UB40…the plot to Brokeback Mountain 2! 😃

Decided late yesterday I fancied another night with the awesome weather so headed to Peaks with zero plan. Didn’t see anyone else, had perfect views and the sunrise was EPIC! My new fave spot I think. ☺️⛺️

Beach camp

Weather at Peaks was supposed to be grim so decided to head to the beach!🏖️ Hiked 5 miles well out the way, pitched late and was up first light.

Two baby munjacs came walking past the tent as the sun was going down. Absolutely EPIC sunset! 🦌

Wasn’t able to peg the tent out properly due to sand, but lumped a hefty bit of wood up the beach which helped.

Good job as the wind picked up to 37mph in the night and was a wee bit exposed…the new tent stood firm though. 🤘

Mat options

Sleeping mat recommendations please. 🙏🏻

Recently got a Thermarest Neoloft (wide) and although it’s ridiculously comfortable it’s a bit too big and main issue is I can’t use my trekker chair properly with it. Can sit up fine in the tent, but don’t want to risk folding the bottom.

Looking at switching out for something a little less chonky, but still comfy.

Options I’m currently considering are; Neoair xlite NXT (not sure of the horizontal baffles though), Sea to Summit Ether Lite XT and Big Agnes Rapide XL.

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone that’s used the above, or any other recommendations please. 🙂
