How to try dirt biking in the UAE without buying a bike? Looking for rentals/trial sessions

Hey everyone,

I’ve been watching a lot of dirt bike content lately and I’m really interested in getting into it. However, I don’t want to drop a ton of cash on a bike and gear only to find out I don’t actually enjoy it in person.

I want to have a proper go at it before committing to the hobby. I’m looking for advice on the best way to "taste test" dirt biking here in the UAE.

Specifically, I need help with:

  1. Rental spots: Where can I rent a proper dirt bike (not just a quad) for a day or a few hours? I’m thinking places like Al Qua, Hatta, or the desert areas near Sharjah.
  2. Guided sessions: Are there any schools or guides that take beginners out? I’d feel safer with someone showing me the ropes rather than just sending it into the dunes alone.
  3. Gear: Do rental places usually include a helmet and boots, or do I need to buy those upfront? (If so, any cheap shops in Deira or Al Ain?)
  4. Budget: What should I expect to pay for a rental + guide for a morning session?

I’m not looking to race, just want to see if the feeling of riding on sand is as fun as it looks on YouTube.

Any advice on where to start would be awesome. Thanks!

Beginner Bike Advice: Panigale V2, Monster V2, Ninja 650, or Yamaha R9? (Dubai)

Hey everyone,

I'm a new rider working on getting my license and looking to buy my first bike in the next few months. I've narrowed it down to a few options and wanted to get some local perspective.

The shortlist:

  • Ducati Panigale V2
  • Ducati Monster V2
  • Yamaha YZF-R9
  • Kawasaki Ninja 650

I know the Ducatis are the emotional choice, and I've heard the usual "don't start on a superbike" advice. But I'm also aware the Panigale V2 has rain mode (~85hp) and all the electronics (cornering ABS, TC, etc.), so I'm curious if anyone here has actually started on one and how that went.

The Monster is obviously more comfortable, but I do like the sportbike feel.

My use case:

  • Mostly weekend riding (Jebel Jais, Qudra, etc.)
  • Track days at Dubai Autodrome (once I build some skills)
  • Long distance rides to Oman or Saudi
  • Plan to keep the bike for 2–3 years before upgrading

Questions for the community:

  1. For anyone who's ridden the Panigale V2 in rain mode – is it genuinely manageable for a beginner, or is the chassis/ergonomics still too much regardless of the power?
  2. How do the Ninja 650 and R9 compare as starter track/road bikes? The R9 seems more sporty, but the Ninja is obviously cheaper.
  3. Pricing: I have a rough idea of Ducati costs (used Panigale V2 ~60k AED, new ~78k AED), but I'm not sure about the Yamaha R9 or Kawasaki Ninja 650 here in Dubai. Anyone know current showroom or used market prices for these?
  4. What's the general consensus on insurance for a new rider on these bikes? I've heard horror stories about comprehensive insurance being insanely expensive or hard to get for sportbikes. I'm open to 3rd party too given lower acquisiton cost of the bike overall
  5. Any specific dealerships to avoid or recommend? (Al Yousuf for Kawasaki, Yamaha Dubai, Ducati Dubai, etc.)
  6. For track days – is it better to start on a cheaper bike (Ninja 650) and learn properly, or get the R9/Panigale and just use rain/beginner modes?

I'm not in a rush – happy to wait for the right deal. Just want to make a smart decision that balances fun, safety, and not wanting to upgrade after 6 months.

Appreciate any honest advice – even if it's "you're crazy for considering a Ducati as a first bike." 😂

Thanks in advance!
