eSIM or International Plan?

Hello!

I’ll be traveling soon as a chaperone with a group of students from the US to England, France, and Italy. As the main chaperone, it is important to me that I’m able to call and text families back home to stay in communication, especially if there is an emergency situation on tour.

Based on my needs and my understanding of how eSIMs work, it’s my impression that the international plan from my US phone carrier would be the best fit for me as I need voice and text, something that isn’t always offered with eSIMs. I also want to be able to use my US number and believe that it’s locked to my US carrier. I’ve used the international plan in the past and haven’t had issues, I think it makes the most sense for me but wanted to get the opinion of people who are more familiar with eSIMs.

Based on the situation I’m in, is this the easiest/only possible path for me?

Thanks for your help and advice!
