Pelle Larsson vs. Czechia

Hello Heat fans. Writing because I was able to attend the Sweden vs. Czechia FIBA world cup qualifier game the other day, and got to watch Pelle Larsson play.

A couple thoughts:

Larsson looked comfortable in a secondary offensive creator role. Sweden didn't task him with bringing the ball up, but they did give him a relatively long leash within their half court offense.

His defense was a bit hit or miss, particularly down the stretch. Czechia made a run late, and Larsson got beaten a few times when guarding the ball. He ultimately was fine on that end, and seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

He played hard. Dude constantly attacked the basket, and was diving for loose balls.

His jump shot looked solid, and he was willing to pass out of decent shots, in favor of better ones.

In general, Larsson played well, and the coaches clearly trusted him. I can't say the same about Bobi Klintman, who looked decent, but didn't play at all down the stretch.

But that's it. I thought that Larsson looked good enough to be in an NBA rotation, and I hope that he succeeds.

Is it possible to appreciate Mitchell while also hating the idea of automaxing him?

At this point it's pretty clear that Donovan Mitchell is one of the best players to ever wear a Cavs jersey. Barring some future form of disgraceful behavior, number should hang from the rafters.

It's also pretty clear that a maximum extension for Mitchell, where he would be making an average of $68 million per year until age 34, would make him one of the worst contracts in the league.

I can't see a way where the Cavs make it through the summer without either offering Mitchell the max extension, or letting their relationship take a dramatic turn. Either talks break down, a trade happens, or Mitchell decides to pursue the 10 year max extension, where he would make an average of $74 million per year.
