Moving to Mumbai to pursue acting. Should I start creating content too?
Hi! I’m 20 years old and have almost 8 years of theatre experience. I’ve always been very camera-conscious, so I focused on stage acting and never seriously considered screen acting.
However, I’m moving to Mumbai soon for my master’s degree and have decided to give acting a real shot. I plan to audition for film, TV, OTT, ads—basically wherever I can get opportunities.
Recently, I’ve been hearing that content creators often have an easier time getting noticed and building visibility, so I’ve been thinking about starting content creation as well. The problem is that I have no idea where to start. I’m very self-conscious on camera, struggle to imagine content ideas, and worry about staying consistent.
So I would really appreciate advice on both fronts:
Acting
How should a newcomer start building an acting career in Mumbai?
What should I focus on during my first year?
How do I find legitimate auditions and avoid scams?
Should I continue theatre while pursuing screen acting?
What materials should I have ready (headshots, showreel, etc.)?
Content Creation
Is content creation actually useful for aspiring actors?
What kind of content would make sense for someone with a theatre background?
How do you get comfortable on camera?
How do people stay consistent and come up with content ideas?
I feel a bit lost because this is a relatively new plan for me, so any practical advice, warnings, or things you wish you knew when starting out would be greatly appreciated.
