OV Altitude Sun Hoodie

Does anyone else have the problem with this shirt stinking to high heaven? I’m not generally that odorous after a day hike. At least, I can’t smell myself. With the Altitude sun hoodie, I can smell it before I even get to the trail!!

The first time I wore it, it was new and unwashed. I could smell my BO after just a couple miles on an open trail. I washed it per the instructions emailed to me separately and now I’m wearing it the second time and it smells already before I got out of the house. I’m going to wear it today because I’m solo and don’t expect to run into many people on the trail.

Has anyone else had this experience? Have you ever found that a particular material just didn’t work out with your body chemistry? Perhaps it’s just a biology vs technology problem.

Toe Socks on Trail

I bought some Injinji toe socks and I’m wondering how practical they are for multi-day trips.

For as long as it takes me to stuff my sausage toes into them just sitting on my bed, I can’t imagine how I’d manage to do the same on trail after a couple days.

Is it a “practice makes perfect” scenario, it depends on your feet and toes, or more of a “the benefits outweigh the hassle?” They seem to work well but haven’t been life changing compared to just tape where I usually get hotspots. I have yet to hike more than a 8-10 miles in a day in them.

If you love them, why? If you’re not a fan, suggest your favorite socks in lieu of knocking these. I’m well versed in the most popular brand alternatives to toe socks, but am always down for trying something new.

Backup to my hammock

I’m looking at longer trips and I’m wondering what people have packed for backup plans if trees aren’t available for a night. I’m mostly curious about sleeping pad alternatives.

What are some options to keep me off the ground that aren’t going to cost me an extra couple pounds or an extra couple dollars?

I’m more worried about weight and comfort than I am warmth, but I also would want to plan for no more than one night here or there on the ground. Obviously, I’d have to go leave my hammock at home if the route was going to require ground sleeping more than a couple times.

The best I’ve come up with so far reuses most of my hammock gear:

My tarp and trekking poles
My bottom entry bugnet
My quilt
My ground cloth

What I plan to add:

Thermarest Z-Lite Short
Maybe some extra cord for a tarp ridgeline in ground mode.

What am I overlooking or what other options can you suggest?
