Landscapers pruned city tree

I own a condo in a two-family house and my upstairs neighbor just had some landscapers over who cut some lower branches off of a tree that’s owned by the city. The city website is pretty clear that no one except the city should be pruning any city trees without a permit.

I verbally agreed to split the cost of the landscapers for some lawn stuff and pruning a different tree, but I didn’t think they’d be touching that particular tree and I even mentioned to my neighbor that it was a city tree we should ask the city to prune. My tree law questions: how likely is the city to fine someone (hopefully not me) for messing with the tree? And, what can I do to make sure that my neighbor or his landscapers are on the hook, not me?

(Second question might be too much like legal advice, but first question is mainly how angry city arborists get about this sort of thing. Pretty angry, I suspect.)

Ideas for remodel

I'm buying a place and would like to make a few changes to the kitchen. I'll definitely be repainting, adding a tile backsplash, and replacing the countertops. My budget isn't especially large, so nothing big like replacing the cabinets or the floor is on the table (and I like the cabinets and the floor anyway).

The last picture is an AI mockup that I like, although ignore the red strip along the top. I like the idea of a colorful backsplash, and I like the dark countertops, although they might be weird with the white appliances and sink (AI removed the white sink, but I'd rather keep it). I was also considering butcher block countertops, but I'd probably want to paint the cabinets in that case so it's not too much wood.

A couple of questions:

- what paint/backsplash/counter/cabinet/accent colors do you think would work here?

- What would you do in that corner with the fridge? It's about 4' deep, so if the fridge is pushed back to the wall, there's over a foot of wall sticking out on the right. But if it's pulled forward, what do I do with the space behind it? The fridge also just looks lonely over there.

- I'd like a little more counter space, but there's not really room for an island. Could I make a table along the wall over the radiator look nice? Or add something coming out of the built-in and going up to the fridge?

Thanks! I have never done any sort of kitchen remodel, so any ideas appreciated.

Small bathroom + tub ideas

I'm buying a place and would really like to update the bathroom, but I have no experience with bathroom remodels. The main issue is the tub and shower area - mostly I hate the tub and tile color, but I also need to get rid of that wood around the window and replace it with something waterproof. I don't mind the rest of the bathroom, although I don't really like the floor tile, the paint is peeling a little where it meets the wainscotting, and I'll switch the door so that it swings in and to the right instead of the left.

I would love to replace the tub, but not only is it tiny, it's a weird tiny size - 52" long, and I am simply not finding any 52" alcove tubs in my online searches. It might be possible to push that wall back and enlarge the alcove to fit a 60" tub, but I don't know what's back there and I assume messing with the walls would mean a big increase to the project cost. I'd consider going shower-only, but this is the only bathroom, I'm probably not going to live here forever, and I know a tub is a must-have for some buyers.

So - what would you do with this bathroom? If it's going to be impossible to replace the tub, maybe there's a wall tile/paint/floor tile color combo that would make the tub color look okay? I might just hate it when combined with the tile.
