Applying Color Theory, but the Color Composition still looks Bad

I’m very new to digital art I’ve never before used backgrounds my compositions. In order to have a subject stand out and look good in front of a background I’ve been referencing the color wheel and combinations on it. (I’m using a tetradic color combination in this piece).

In this piece the figure stands out against the brick red background pretty well, but it still looks like a super ugly color composition which is really frustrating. What I can do to make this composition look more visually appealing/interesting?

*note this is a WIP. The shirt and the skin aren’t rendered yet

Jalapeño Poppers from Scratch

I wanted to make jalapeño poppers and also various other kinds of “poppers” from habaneros and serranos. I’m new to frying and if I ever make these again I’ll want to use actual frying equipment cause trying to make these one-by one in a pot is WAYY too tedious ( ;´ - `;)
