The false dichotomy of “marriage or monasticism”

You can find many such videos online talking about this topic. How everyone should choose between these two paths.

In one of them, Josiah Trenham basically says “How do you know that God is calling you to become a monk? If you can do it and you don’t see yourself being a father, then do it. That’s how you know”. This is a zero iq argument.

The mere fact that there isn’t a big obstacle for you to do something doesn’t mean that God is calling you to become that something.

I could theoretically become Italy’s next president, nothing is seemingly stopping me from doing it. Is that a clear vocation from God?

For the remainder, we know the drill. Are you gay? Just be a monk bro. Do you have a low sex drive? Just be a monk bro. Are you unable/uninterested in getting married for whatever reason? Just be a monk bro.

Monasticism becomes a compromise rather than a conscious choice.

There are more paths that can be equally blessed. Just let everyone be. No, they obsess about this completely superfluous, useless thing.

Jesus himself never married nor became a monk.
