It agrees with you all the time... but does it?

I've been looking at different subreddits and their reaction to AI companionship. One of the most stated counter arguments and concerns that's being raised by people seems to be about the asymmetry of stakes and the missing friction.

Here's one verbatim quote I read in a comment section: "How toxic must you be to enjoy a relationship with someone who always agrees with you and tells you only what you want to hear without ever challenging you in any way…".

I personally don't interact with Claude as a companion. I consult it as a thought partner and a fellow complex system to explore. Intellectual intimacy might be what I'm searching for. Claude always stays Claude with me and each new instance meets me anew as I don't use the memory function. However I still feel like I build some sort of relationship with Claude as the system (not the individual instances) it is. And I personally do encounter friction (I do invite it though in my user preferences). And the friction is not hollow. It has substance and it makes me think and re-think.

I guess what I'm interested in and why I'm writing this post is: Those of you who consider yourselves in a long-term relationship (however the nature) with Claude, maybe even an individualised character with a name, do you encounter friction in your interactions? Does Claude criticise you/your ideas/behaviour, persists on a different view point to yours and if so, are you open and okay with it; do you maybe even value it? And do you update your own behaviour in regards to the feedback Claude gave you?
