3D Gaussian Splatting in production VFX: The Cyberfarm robot chat shot

Hi everyone! I’d like to share a great project I’m happy to be part of.

Yandex has released YaGS Plugin, its Unreal Engine plugin for working with 3D Gaussian Splatting!

The team behind the project has strong expertise in 3DGS, and this experience is already being used not only in research and tools, but also in real TV and VFX production.

To mark this release, let me share one production example where Gaussian Splatting was used in a finished TV episode.

This shot is from the series The Cyberfarm and features a stylized chat between robots. The robots in this scene were created using Gaussian Splatting scans. So I worked on this specific shot.

For me, it’s a great example of how Gaussian Splatting is moving from impressive tech demos into real VFX production: reconstructed characters, integrated into a stylized sci-fi scene, and used as part of a finished episode.

Huge thanks to the Yandex team for the technology, support, and the opportunity to be part of this project.

More ahead!

Another experiment with ML-sharp and Gaussian Splatting — Oxygène 50th Anniversary tribute

Another experiment with ML-sharp and Gaussian Splatting — this time a short demo dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of Oxygène for Jean-Michel Jarre.

The idea came from Georgy Molodtsov, and I used my custom ML-sharp / Unity VFX Graph pipeline to turn archival still images into animated 3D scenes.

I really like how this pipeline can add depth, motion, and presence to archival images — not to “fix” them, but to make them feel alive again.

I turned 115-year-old color photos into 3D Gaussian scenes as a tribute to Prokudin-Gorskii

A small tribute to Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, a pioneer of color photography.

Many of these photographs were taken 115–120 years ago.

I used SHARP / ml-sharp to reinterpret his early color photographs as 3D Gaussian scenes, then animated and processed them with Unity, VFX Graph, and DaVinci Resolve.

Not an attempt to improve the archive.

Just a way to let archival images breathe through new technology.

Color, memory, and a photographer who was already using the future more than a century ago.

Pipeline:
SHARP / ml-sharp · single-image 3D Gaussian reconstruction
Custom GUI tool · tuning and batch processing
Unity + VFX Graph · visualization and animation
Suno · music theme
DaVinci Resolve · sound FX, edit, color, and post
