Son had adverse affects with Concerta and Intuniv not working
My son is thirteen and was diagnosed with ADHD this year. He was put on Concerta - I thought this would help him greatly with inatteniveness in school. Instead - it made him extremely aggressive and emotional - exacerbated his anxiety to an extreme degree and gave him uncontrollable facial tics.
We had to abandon it after about six weeks. He was then given Intuniv - which he is now on at 2mg. This has made him quite drowsy - I know the drowsiness is likely a side effect which won't last long. However - there don't seem to be any pros. He isn't noticeably more attentive - just seems tired all the time. The doctor feels like putting him on a low dose of ritalin will help him (in addition to Intuniv).
I am uneasy about proceeding further. A big part of me wants to stop the meds and try to go back to the drawing board with therapies etc. I feel guilty about medicating my son and this feels a lot like experimenting. I'd appreciate advice from any other parents or people who are in a similar situation.
