Best way to get started while being down in the dumps?

Hello everyone,

TLDR; I’ve been pretty depressed lately, my boss noticed and gave me a $150 gift card to bass pro shop to help me get outdoors. Wanna use it to start surf and pier fishing no clue what to actually buy and don’t mind adding more money if necessary, thank you for any advice!

I recently expressed to my boss that I’ve been feeling super burnt out and feeling down in the dumps. This year has been a bit of a rough one at work and with my personal life tbh, I’ve always smoked but recently have been drinking nearly everyday after work.

He is a great boss because he noticed the change in attitude and mood and asked me how much time have I been spending out doors? He is a marathon runner and trail runner and said nature really helps him destress especially since he quit drinking and partying, so being outside is his outlet. I explained to him my days currently are: gym before work, work, go home and start drinking and smoking while playing video games till I pass out. He looked a bit concerned when I shared that with him and said I’m young and should spend sometime outside this summer and asked if I had any interest in any outdoor hobbies? I told him when I was younger my dad would take me pier fishing and my grandpa would take me hunting. I remember enjoying both but fishing was a lot more accessible since I live in the suburbs of LA.

The following day he said he had a gift for all of my hard work and for being honest with him, and he handed me a $150 gift card to bass pro shop and told me he hopes it makes it easier to get outside this summer. I almost shed a tear tbh, and express my gratitude. It’s been so long that I have no clue what to use it for what I need to get started I don’t mind spending more just wanna make sure I get stuff that will help me land a fish any advice is appreciated and welcomed sorry about the rambling and I apologize if post of these natures aren’t allowed😅
