Testicular cancer or orchitis.

Hi, so around end of May I had painful testicle overnight with increase in sensitivity. Eventually after a week or 2 the pain and sensitivity subsided to tolerance of 0. However through the course of the following weeks my right testicle proceeded to increase in size compared ro my left with no pain. At first it was not noticeable but the density was off compared to my left. One felt firm and the other felt like liver i guess I could say (normal). I was in school and doing clinicals so I pushed it off since it wasn't painful.

I finished my clinicals and finally decided to schedule a visit after 1 to 2 months with this issue. So far have gotten an Ultrasound. bhcg, ldh, and AFP labs done. Ultrasound showed "heterogenous mass @ 6cm". Bhcg was normal, afp was normal, and ldh was at 1500 (exceedingly high). I followed up with a redraw post antibiotics and nsaids treatment of 2 weeks for ldh. Ldh dropped to 600 (normal reference range is about 100 to 300). Anyways I did a CT chest and abd w contrast. and they said they couldn't rule out metastasis as one of my lymph nodes "Aortacaval retroperitoneal lymph node" was 0.8cm. Which falls under oncology protocol. So couldn't rule out metastatic and am being referred to and will follow up with oncology and possibly a PET scan.

Since finishing the antibiotics my right testicle what used to be 6cm on ultrasound and based off of physical appearances has greatly reduced in size. Similar in size to my left testicle now. Its still slightly firm but I think its still taking a while to reduce back to regular density. Is it possible It was just a really bad case of inflammation from a prolonged untreated infection. my Urologist suspected a bad case of orchitis but still wanted to get all the scans done. Obviously which lymph node is slightly enlarged it doesnt tend to lean towards orchitis.

Orchiectomy is on the table but obviously, id rather keep it. I am doing a follow up now next week with my Urologist for another physical follow up.

LDH

Hi all, I am MLS student and recently had a work up for possible Testicular cancer. I got my labs back and AFP and Bhcg were within normal range, super glad. However; LDH came back significantly high.

It came out to 1500. Which i honestly dont know what could have happened or why its thst high. You think its probably from bad draw??

Student/Cancer (most likely)

Hey all, im in kind of a pickle. I am an MLS student and in my final year. I did my UA/Heme/Blood bank rotations after completing the lecture portion. I now have just chem/micro left in fall semester. With clinicals probably around the new year up to graduation.

Any how I worked hard to get accepted and get through this program and through clinicals. Sadly, during the end of spring semester I notice a mass and tried ignoring it as I work full time overnight and was starting my MLS clinical externship. I finished my externship and finally decided to focus on getting my preventative health screening and check out this mass (after a month). Labs came out well in term cbc. My radiology scan came out abnormal and compatibke with neoplasm measuring 6cm. Im schedule for a specialist visit on Monday.

My question is have any of you been in this situation? Were you able to carry out your extent of the program. Were there any accommodation made for you in terms of in person labs for class. My program is a hybrid program only two days a week in person and on one of the days we stay a little longer for lab.

I know I should probably drop everything and focus on my health but I really want to get through this and have something to fall back on at the end of the tunnel. Thank you ahead of time.

Testicular neoplasm

(24) M hi everyone, About 2 months ago I had pain on my testicle and swelling. It was just abrubt and overnight. I contemplated going to the ED but eventually I talked myself out of it when icing and advil helped. 2 weeks went by and my pain, sensitivity, and discomfort were gone. I only had some discomfort as my right testicle was huge compared to my left. In terms of size and density I would describe tmit the same as an avocado. A bit of resistance when I would feel it but not hard as a rock. There was no pain or sensitivity to it either anymore.

Anyways my annuall preventative came up and I had my lab drawn and everything. Urine came out okay, cbc and cmp were okay other then low hdl and a high rbc count, slightly high. Maybe around 5.5×10^9. Wbc count was within normal range. I had an ultrasound performed and my results came back earlier today when I was asleep and stated "6.2 x 4.0 x 4.9 cm compatible testicular neoplasm."

What now? I wont hear back from my doctor till tomorrow. Only thing I was worried about all day was this and all my school work. What to do with school? With work? I am relying on insurance through work so now I may not even have insurance.

Anyways now worried, what can should I expect on this side of things?

MLS clinicals

How comfortable did you guys feel during clinicals?

How well did you know your stuff in terms of correlating certain lab values with possible dxs? With performing QCs, knowing the analyzer inside and out like what reagents are used for etc?

I started my clinicals for UA/BB/ Heme. Currently on my 3rd week of (Heme/UA w Bf).The next twi weeks will just be BB.

I honestly feel like im retarded or something when it comes to the lab. Like im provided with these objectives and im rotating between different techs each day (5/8hr). Some techs (3) at least teach me well and are easy going. Theyll let me perfomr and do hands on to get comfortable.while others half ass and mumble or throw me to the wolves (3). So each tech has their own way of doing things. The techs rotate between the other departments so im kinda stuck and screwed with who ever I fall with that day.

But nevertheless, today was busy and I was hassled by this tech because I didnt come in and immediately start doing QC for sysmex or stago coag analyzer. Like iv performed it supervised but in no way am I comfortable performing it myself especially when their patients waiting for labs or im afraid ill run through a whole batch or reagents or accidently grab the wrong lot or forget to do some dailey maintenance. So I just do regular stuff like cleaning benches and daily maintenance on strainer etc. I do run pt UA and coags though obv simple but honestly just this made me feel like im just retarded. I also do manual slides for the pt BF. But like today she just got irritated because i guess the other techs aren't teaching me well and are cutting corners and so i just felt misplaced the entire day with a sense of anxiety. I only have 2 days left in UA and Heme btw.

Am I doing something wrong? Ways to improve?
