Indian passport Renewal from usa nightmare!
After going through this painful process, I had to reapply for the renewal again. Even though I correctly selected the New York center, I had to create a new VFS account because Delaware was moved from the Washington, D.C. jurisdiction to New York. On top of that, the printing format on the website is incorrect, and I ended up spending another $100.
For the exact same Indian address, the application has now been sent for police verification. How is a person who is currently residing in the USA supposed to complete police verification in Tamil Nadu? The police are asking for my PAN card (which I have with me in the USA), photograph, signature, and even address proof from neighbors. Why should a neighbor have to provide their address proof to verify my address?
This level of bureaucracy is extremely frustrating and makes little practical sense. I sincerely hope someone responsible in the Indian government looks into these unnecessary and burdensome procedures. Processes like these discourage people, particularly those living abroad, and seriously undermine confidence in the system
