Doggie door advice?

Hi All! I have two small dogs, 10 and 13 lbs. I am considering getting a doggie door and would appreciate any advice from ppl who have one. Our back door is mostly glass (not a slider) so we would have to get a new back door too. I'm assuming it would be small enough that criminals couldn't use it to get in.
Do you have any advice on do's and dont's of installing and using a doggie door? We have a fenced in backyard, so they would be safe going in and out, but I've never had one and don't know anyone who's had one, so want to start off on the right foot with it.
Thank you for any feedback and advice. :)

Edit to add: I don't have a good option to put it in the wall, so it would have to be a new back door (current glass door is not a slider).

Advice for a doggie door?

Hi All! I have two small dogs, a chihuahua/dachshund mix and a chihuahua/yorkie mix. They are about 10 and 13 lbs. I want to get them a doggie door because we have a fenced in back yard but would appreciate advice.
So we would have to get a new back door because the current door is all glass except a fairly small border. So I would appreciate any advice about getting a new back door with a doggie door in it. Do you have a doggie door for small dogs and how does it work for you? Are you worried about criminals using it to try to break in? I'm assuming I could get a doggie door small enough that a human couldn't fit through it, but any advice on that? Also, do you sometimes lock the doggie door so you can keep them inside when you want?
Do you have any other advice regarding do's and dont's of having a doggie door from personal experience?
I appreciate any help on this!

Edit to add: The back door is not a slider. Also, we don't have enough wall space in that area to put the door through the wall. It would have to be installed in the back door.
