What actually broke the first time you ran an agent in production?

Plenty of tools now for watching agents in production - budget caps, monitoring, guardrails. The question shifted from 'can it do the task' to 'what happens when it runs unattended at 3am with a credit card attached.' That second one is the real job. Shipping the agent was easy. So what made you add monitoring? A runaway loop, a cost spike, a tool call gone wrong? And did you buy something or build it yourself? Trying to find where the real gaps are.

Voice agents: did you land on WebRTC or WebSockets, and what bit you?

Realtime voice is showing up in everything now, and I keep going back and forth on the transport. WebRTC handles jitter and packet loss the way you'd want, but the setup tax is real. WebSockets are dead simple right up until someone's on hotel wifi and the audio falls apart.

If you've shipped a voice feature to actual users: which way did you go, and what surprised you after launch? Mostly trying to learn from people who've already paid for the mistake.

How much do you actually let an AI agent touch in production?

Saw the thread this week about giving an agent direct database access, and the comments were a horror show. It got me thinking. The demo where the agent just does the thing is great. The production version where it can also delete the wrong row at 2am is less great.

For those of you running agents against live systems, how are you scoping permissions? Read-only mirrors, an approval step, a hard wall between 'suggest' and 'execute'? Curious what's actually held up for you, not what the docs say.

Are people getting tired of AI spoon feeding them too much?

Didn't expect this to move the needle so fast. Search engine DuckDuckGo has seen visits to its 'No AI' search page more than triple following Google's sweeping AI-first overhaul of Search, announced at its I/O 2026 developer conference on 19th May. The surge reflects growing user frustration with the tech giant's pivot away from traditional link-based results towards AI-generated interactive experiences.

What's wild to me is that Google still has a 'Web' filter that gives you old-school link results. It just can't be set as a permanent default. That one detail might be doing more work than any privacy pitch DuckDuckGo has ever run.

Are people genuinely switching or just curious-clicking? I'm curious to know what this is inkling.

How does AI actually decide which products to recommendation?

I come from a traditional SEO background - backlinks, structured data, all that. I have a decent handle on how Google ranks pages.

What I'm less sure about is how AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, etc.) decide which products to surface when someone asks something like "what's a good tool for X." Is it just pulling from whatever's highly ranked in search? Is there a separate layer of training data involved? Some combination?

Genuinely curious whether anyone has figured out what actually moves the needle here or whether it's just largely opaque at this point. Is there an equivalent of 'on-page SEO' for AI responses, or is it mostly about being referenced enough across the web that the models pick it up?

Feels like we’re entering a weird phase of AI infrastructure

A year ago, everyone was talking about GPU shortages. Now it feels less like a “shortage” and more like demand has fundamentally gone off the rails.

Every company suddenly wants AI agents, multimodal workloads, on-device models and cloud inference

Meanwhile, the same handful of companies are still effectively controlling the compute bottleneck.

NVIDIA is still the obvious elephant in the room, but even hyperscalers seem to be scrambling to build alternatives (TPUs, Trainium, Maia, custom silicon, etc.).

What I can’t tell is: Are we actually headed toward another real chip shortage?

Or are we just in a new normal where compute is permanently expensive and access is uneven?

A few things that make me think this isn’t temporary:

- Startups are getting GPU credits instead of actual access

- Inference costs are becoming product strategy decisions

- AI features are increasingly constrained by compute economics, not model capability

- Everyone talks about models, but infra feels like the actual moat now

Curious what people here think.

Are we overestimating the risk because of 2023–24 GPU panic? Or is AI demand about to outpace supply again in a very real way?

Especially interested in takes from people actually provisioning GPUs or running inference in production.
