I built Inkroost. Turn your story into a comic, no drawing needed

I'm a developer who can't draw but always wanted to make comics. Commissioning an artist for even a short chapter costs hundreds of dollars, so I built a tool for people exactly like me.

Inkroost lets you:

  • Describe your characters once (hair, clothes, personality). They stay consistent across every page
  • Write each page as one sentence ("she finds the letter pushed under the door") and get up to 4 drawing options to pick from
  • Upload your own art instead, if you draw. Both paths work
  • Publish free chapters or gate them behind your own Patreon (you keep the audience and the income)
  • Use whole export module which allows you to export your chapters as images, pdfs, epub or cbz.
  • You keep full rights. Inkroost is non-exclusive

Inkroot is also probably the only similar platform you can use directly with your favourite agent via MCP

Currently 7 creators, 12 series, 62 chapters. New accounts start with 15 free credits, no card needed.

My main pricing model is selling generation and watermark free exportables. I'm currently trying to grow the platform. I have 20 users in a month, 5 this week and this is increasing. But it requires me to actively post different platforms which is time consuming.

I'd love feedback on:

(a) the positioning. Does "comic from your story" make sense?

(b) the pricing model.

(c) how should I approach marketing of this side project since I can't spend all my time on promoting?

I have 3 sales on first week

I have written and published a short, 80 pages walking guide for my city. (I also do the tours live, myself as a guide) I published the book via kdp. I have now 3 sales on kdp and 2 sales via d2d. I know the 2 sales of kdp and 1 of d2d. Is this a good sign? Should I already start with amazon ads and if so, what is a regular budget for this? Sorry for the ignorance, I’m quite new to this!

I built Inkroost, a place to publish AI-assisted manga (openly tagged as AI-assisted) - looking for early creators to tear it apart (kindly)

Hey r/aicomicmakers - builder here, so this is self-promo, flagged up front. Mods, happy to remove if it's not welcome.

The problem I kept running into: there are loads of good tools now for generating comic pages, but almost nowhere decent to actually put the finished thing. Post AI-assisted work on most comic platforms and it gets removed or dogpiled. So the work ends up sitting in a folder.

Inkroost (inkroost.com) is my attempt at a home for it:

  • Publish hand-drawn or AI-assisted chapters. AI-assisted series get an "AI-assisted" tag - visible, not hidden. I'd rather be upfront with readers than pretend.
  • Free to read, free to start, no subscription.
  • You keep your rights. Your manga stays yours.
  • Monetisation runs through your own Patreon rather than us sitting in the middle - you keep the reader relationship and the money directly. (well, there is Patreon but that's not my business)

Being honest about where it's at: it is very early. A handful of series, most of them mine while I test the pipeline, and a tiny reader count. I'm not going to pretend there's an audience waiting for you - there isn't yet. What I can offer early creators is that your series won't be buried under thousands of others, and I'll actually build what you ask for.

I don't have any talent to draw so I have been improving the AI generation to help myself. Huge difference in consistency between the early chapters of https://inkroost.com/series/dead-hours and latest ones.

What I'd genuinely like feedback on:

  1. Is open "AI-assisted" tagging the right call, or does it just paint a target on creators' backs?
  2. Patreon-based monetisation vs. something native - which would you actually want?
  3. What's the one thing that would make you upload a series somewhere new?

Tear it apart, I'd rather hear it now. And if you've got a finished comic sitting in a folder, that's exactly who I built this for.

Dead Hours - The Refund

I’m making this indie manga platform nowadays and added bunch of ai to it for people with no talent like myself. I’m pretty happy about how the comedy series Dead Hours turned out 😅

Are there any alternatives to OpenRouter for image generation routing?

I’m using OpenRouter to generate some images. This works really well for me since I use multiple models. However, models like openai’s image 2 take ages to generate an image. In these cases I really could use an asynchronous endpoint instead of a synchronous one. Any suggestions for a better service provider? (Better api interface or way faster)
