African American & Black Diaspora Studies

hi! i’m hoping to transfer to BU from BC for fall 2027. i was thinking of majoring in African American & Black Diaspora Studies as my pre-law major. Does anyone have any experience in the program?

Here are my questions:

How large is the program?

How big are typical class sizes?

Does the department assist with internships or professional opportunities?

What do many AADS students do post grad?

Does the major matter when transferring to BU?

Thanks!

I had 36 residents tonight.

title. just need to rant. this assisted living assigns every CNA with 15-18 residents each. one person called out so it doubled my assignment. couldn’t split because every other CNA was brand new to evening shift and couldn’t even complete their assignment properly. i had to stop what i was doing and help them constantly.

PLUS i had to train this sweet girl whose second day it is because her trainer bailed.

36 people and basically no help. drowned the entire night. i hate this job and this field so much. management had the audacity to beg me to come in tomorrow at 6am and work a double. 14 hours of straight work after this is what im dealing with? fuck no.

anyways thanks for reading.

Transferring after medical leave?

Has anyone transferred after a medical leave of absence? I unexpectedly had a major diagnosis and health issue my sophomore year at a pretty nice, reputable school. i had to take a medical leave of absence for over a year (will be two years if i apply this cycle) and left with no connections at my past university. I have a 3.7 but 4 W’s since I had to withdraw unexpectedly.

What was transferring after a medical leave like for you? Could I still be eligible to apply to competitive schools? I don’t have and couldn’t get any LORs :(

i think i hate this field. should i leave nursing behind?

title. i eagerly became a CNA thinking i’d for sure become a nurse. i got my certification in June. i’ve worked in a variety of facilities and every one, either immediately or with time, is terrible. constantly understaffed to the point where i have 15-20 residents. management is always pressuring me to do doubles—to be stretched so thin. im always overstimulated, stressed, balancing way too much. we’re always short supplies so i can’t even give proper care.

the truth is: it’s making me depressed. i hate being at will to so many seniors for hours. i hate never taking a break. i hate being responsible for falls, if a resident forgets to go to dinner, isn’t in bed on time, wet etc. i hate caring for morbidly obese residents who can’t even assist in turning their bodies to clean. most of my coworkers are awful or unhelpful. but i think i hate the nursing field as a whole. i don’t want to be a glorified waitress for 12 hour shifts. i’d only become a nurse for job security and a living wage.

but am i feeling this way because long term care, nursing homes, etc suck? or is nursing not for me? how did you know this wasn’t right for you? i think i know my answer but i have too much shame admitting that because i wanted this to work out so much.

i have an interview to be a PCT on a mother baby postpartum unit at my local hospital. hoping if that goes well the change of environment and skills will help.

thanks!
