My proposed CSK Playing XI for next season + replacements

I think CSK should plan their best XI with proper alternatives for injuries and loss of form, so the team doesn't deteriorate like it did last season.

🏏 Best XI

  1. Sanju Samson (WK) (Captain alternative)

  2. Ayush Mhatre — Could utilize the powerplay with aggressive batting and then bat deep if he develops his game further. Replacement: Urvil Patel

  3. Ruturaj Gaikwad (C) — One bad season shouldn't make us forget what he's capable of. He's still an excellent anchor. Replacement: Ayush Vartak / Urvil Patel

  4. Kartik Sharma — Has gained confidence and should be given a chance from the start. Can bat at 4, 5 or 6 depending on the situation. Replacement: Sarfaraz Khan

  5. Dewald Brevis — An explosive option. One bad season shouldn't decide his entire future. Replacement: Sarfaraz Khan / Dian Forrester

  6. Shivam Dube — Powerful six-hitter who can bat at 4–7. At No. 6, he can focus more on finishing. Replacement: Dian Forrester / Ramkrishna Ghosh

  7. Jamie Overton / Ramkrishna Ghosh — If we want more bowling, Overton can bat at 7. If we want more batting depth, Ghosh can play at 7 with Overton at 8.

  8. Jamie Overton / Anshul Kamboj — If Overton bats at 7, Kamboj can come in at 8. Replacement: Gurjapneet Singh / Mukesh Choudhary

  9. Noor Ahmad — Main spin option. Replacement: Rahul Chahar / Mukesh Choudhary

  10. Nathan Ellis — Could be one of the best fits for the bowling attack. Replacement: Mukesh Choudhary

  11. Khaleel Ahmed — Left-arm pace option. Replacement: Akeal Hosein

Impact options

  • Sarfaraz Khan
  • Urvil Patel
  • Akeal Hosein
  • Gurjapneet Singh
  • Mukesh Choudhary

The Impact Player should depend on the match situation — extra batting, extra bowling, or a specific matchup.

What do you guys think? What would you change in this XI?

What if an IPL-style league was introduced for Test cricket?

Hear me out — what if Test cricket got its own league, similar to the IPL, but with matches lasting 2–3 days instead of 5?

The idea:

  • Start with the 8 original IPL franchises.
  • Each franchise can retain up to 6 players from its existing IPL squad.
  • The rest of the squad could be built through a Test-specific auction/draft.
  • Matches could have a maximum of around 180–270 overs, depending on the format.
  • A proper league table + playoffs/final could make the competition feel like a major sporting event.
  • The rules could still preserve the important parts of Test cricket while making matches shorter and easier for casual fans to follow.

Imagine something like:

MI vs CSK — 3-day Test RCB vs KKR — 2-day Test RR vs SRH — 3-day Test

And the biggest thing: it could potentially bring huge attention back to the format. Imagine established stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing in a franchise-based red-ball league again, alongside young Test specialists and overseas players.

I know there are obvious problems — international cricket, player workload, scheduling, and whether a 2–3 day match can really be called Test cricket.

But if leagues are what attract viewers to cricket nowadays, could an IPL-style Test league be one way to make red-ball cricket commercially viable again?

Would you actually watch this? And what rules would you change?
