Is there a way to lay tile on old floors that “breathe”? (House built 1906)
I have an old Victorian ca.1906 pier and beam house in north texas. The whole house breathes with the seasons, and this lead to most of the ground floor tile cracking in just a few years. The flipper I bought it from (poorly) laid large (12x18) tile in a few rooms and I’ve had to pull up and replace most of it with wood due to cracking and buckling. I know houses in this era had tile, mostly small penny tiles…is there a way to install it that will keep it from cracking when the seasons change? I need to replace the tile in the kitchen, hall, and laundry room, but I don’t want to put wood there. I’m trying to put some of the old school charm back in this house (it was “modernized”) and I absolutely HATE the texture of LVP, so please don’t recommend it.
