It's official, we're moving to Dundee (and I need your advice)

We presently live in Maidenhead in England. We've had our eye on Scotland for a little over a year now and last week my wife got the word that Tayside NHS wanted to hire her (after a great interview). So, we're on our way.

Dundee is a city I've been to a handful of times, but always on business.

Driving around last week, it occurred to me that I really don't know much about the city in terms of... well pretty much anything.

My wife and I have a small child, he's just two, and so we're looking for an area that feels safe.

I will tell you that I drove through a lot of areas that looked like they were not that. But looks can be deceiving.

I've identified Broughty Ferry north of Queen Street, and the "West End" south of Blackness and between Bellefield and Windsor as areas that LOOK (to me) like nice places to live.

But, again, looks aren't everything.

We've also found something northeast of town in Burnside of Duntrune, but that lacks proximity to... pretty much everything.

We'd like to keep our rent below £1200/mo, so we're not looking for the bougiest areas... we cannot afford them.

I work from home. We have a car. Our son needs a nursery. We don't have to live in Dundee proper, but we'd like to. We'd like to be around other families with kids. We're not interested in nightlife. Also, if it matters, I'm 43, my wife is 35.

Where should I be looking?

Cheers.
