Lower scores with new format?

I can’t help but notice that, ever since the format changed a few months ago, people have been experiencing immense score drops + I’ve been seeing a lower average score than pre format switch. Don’t know if this is some availability bias but was curious about yalls thoughts or personal experiences

Surgery shelf

These practice shelves are so hard. I can’t make above a 59% on them. Finished all of Uworld and Amboss and scored average 60% and 64% respectively. Don’t know what I’m missing out on and would appreciate any advice thanks!

Advice on derm and anesthesia

Hi guys! I’m a third-year medical student who initially considered dermatology at the very beginning of medical school. I started writing and submitting to various conferences, but at some point I convinced myself that I probably wasn’t smart enough to match into derm, especially given how many stellar applicants end up unmatched. I eventually found a deep love for anesthesia.

Over the years, I’ve definitely improved academically, and I’m now scoring fairly well in medical school. I’ve also made a ton of connections in anesthesia, and at this point, I feel like if I can get a good Step 2 score, I probably have a pretty good shot at matching.

But lately, I’ve been having some regrets about not pursuing dermatology, and I honestly don’t know where they’re coming from. Part of me wonders if I’m self-sabotaging because things are going well with anesthesia. Maybe now that anesthesia feels like a realistic path for me, I’m suddenly wanting something else, even though I know derm would be a much more difficult and potentially unrealistic path for me to pursue.

The thing is, I really am happy with anesthesia. I know how competitive it is, and I know that matching is never a guarantee, but I feel like I’ve found a specialty that I genuinely enjoy and can see myself doing. At the same time, I keep wondering if I’m missing out by not pursuing dermatology, especially because I feel like it could offer me so much more in terms of work-life balance.

I hope you guys can understand where I’m coming from, and I swear I’m not trying to embellish myself or make myself seem more competitive than I am. I’m genuinely just looking for some advice because I don’t want to look back and feel like I missed out on something that could have been a great career for me. But I also don’t want to chase something that may be completely unrealistic, potentially jeopardize my chances of matching, and end up regretting that decision even more.

Anesthesiologist Bay Area

Hi friends!!!

I'm considering practicing anesthesiology in the Bay Area and would love to hear from people who are currently working there.

I'm especially interested in learning about:
Typical weekly hours
Call schedule (overnight, home call, in-house call)
Weekend requirements
Vacation/PTO (how many weeks do you actually get?)
Salary and compensation structure (base, partnership, bonuses, etc.)
Private practice vs. hospital-employed vs. academic positions
Work-life balance and overall job satisfaction

If you're comfortable sharing, it would also be helpful to know:
Type of practice (private, academic, Kaiser, independent group, etc.)
General location (SF, Peninsula, South Bay, East Bay, North Bay)
Years in practice

Tryna get a realistic picture of what life is actually like rather than just looking at job postings lol. Thanks a ton!!

Program Director saying they really like you

For those who have already gone through the Match process, I'm curious about your experience. If you were applying to your #1 program, did the program director ever tell you that they planned to rank you to match or strongly implied that they really wanted you? If so, did you actually end up matching there, or did it turn out to be just something they told applicants/lead you on about?

Also would love to hear your stories about this.

Edit: Yall please tell me what happened 😭

PDs telling students they’re ranked to match

Hiii! This might be a dumb question, but I've always wondered this lol
How do some people who match seem to already have a T-shirt or sweatshirt from the program they end up matching at on Match Day? I've seen videos where their family hands them the shirt of the exact institution they matched into right after they open the envelope.
Do programs ever hint to applicants that they're "ranked to match," or do students just have a really good feeling about where they're going to match? I've always been curious how that works!

Updating without losing personal notes?

Hey guys! I hope you're well. I'm kinda dummy and I've been continuously adding my personal notes to the "extra" field of Anki. I really want to update my Anking deck but worried that I'm going to lose my personal notes. How can I avoid this? I've heard something about a special fields add on but unsure if it will help with my situation. Really don't want to lose all my notes. Thank you!
