Yesterday afternoon while driving downtown I came across a large group of motorcycles. Once I turned onto George Street and had no choice but to get behind a part of the group that was separated by a red light I could see the patches on their vests said “Red Devils MC Kawarthas”. I was hesitant to get behind the group, despite needing to turn a couple streets up, because I know they like to ride together. More traffic came up behind me so now there were approximately 6-10 cars with me between the two groups. Once our light turned green, so did the one behind us and I could see the rest of the group slowly trying to catch up. I always give motorcycles space, and was doing so when a single bike came to a complete stop in front of, holding up traffic so the rest of the group could catch up. A second bike joined the first one and then they moved into the centre of the Charlotte and George intersection, again coming to a complete stop but this time impeding two full lanes of traffic. As I checked my side mirrors I could see a group of 4-5 bikers coming up around my entire care. Some in the bike lane, some on the dotted line in between cars. Thankfully I had to turn on Charlotte and was able to safely maneuver without hitting someone and the light turned red so the bikers trying to catch up had to stop anyways.

I’m all for a joyride in the sunny weather but there is absolutely no need to impede traffic in the downtown core just to stick together. I just needed to rant.

Did anyone else get caught in this yesterday??
