Sudden sickness

Posting to rant. Yesterday morning my kitten was acting lower energy than usual, and I told the shelter and they told me to think nothing of it and ofc I’m not allowed to take him to the vet. I pleaded bc I thought something was seriously wrong after he wouldn’t eat lunch and still they wouldn’t believe me, and finally I brought him in to get checked at the shelter and lo and behold he is severely dehydrated at the least. They took him to the hospital and also picked up his sister from my house (which was a shock) for observation. She is still at the shelter and is apparently fine, though I’m worried she’ll pick something up there since they said something is going around.
I can’t stop crying. This is my first time fostering and I was ready to foster fail because I fell in love with them. I’m so worried about him and I’m worried this is somehow my fault, that he ate something on the ground or I accidentally contaminated him. They’re only 8-9 weeks old.

Kittens w/ Ringworm

Hi! I'm a first time foster and I am currently setting up to welcome kitties into my home, depending on what the shelter and I decide on. Originally I contacted them after seeing a flyer about a mama and her TEN babies saved from a kill shelter, and I inquired about taking the mama or two babies. Today I had my home inspection call, and the caretaker on the phone told me she desperately needed a home for three babies with ringworm. I wouldn't be opposed to taking in three instead of two, especially since I'm hoping this responsibility might mean I'm ready to adopt a pet full time if I can see that an animal can be happy in my relatively small space (studio apartment). However, I'm a bit reticent to immediately jump up and say yes to three babies with ringworm when this is my first time fostering. The way I see it, I have committed to the responsibility of caring for an animal, and it wouldn't make sense to shirk that responsibility simply because I know about a complication ahead of time; any animal can get sick, and I signed up for this. On the other, I wonder if it would be wiser to start a little smaller, and maybe help with something more complicated once I have my footing as a foster mom.

I haven't committed to any one or more animals yet as I only JUST got approved, so I figured I would ask for advice beforehand.
