Didn’t quite catch what actually happened, so please fill in the details if you know more.

In the bottom of the first, Maine bat out of order, but this wasn’t caught until multiple batters later. In the meantime, multiple runs scored and one batter struck out.

After deliberating for 14 minutes, the umpires decided to add an out, re-bat a batter than had just struck out, and leave the run count in tact.

I am so confused. What happened? What’s the rule?
