These SDS-1’s are crazy. They have so much character. Mid bite and all that, not harshly bright. And they’re loud af. My Spectrum gain is at about 10:00 and the KSR master is about 9:00. It took me way too long to realize that 70’s Jerry tone = no buffer.

Found a used whatever Strat body with an American Strat neck for $450 recently. Popped in Alnico 3’s like Alligator and I think Early Wolf. I’ve never tried them before. Love em. And just for shits and giggles, I popped in a reverse 1Meg volume pot based on a rumor I read, just to try it out. May keep the pot, may swap it out.

If you can find a cheap Strat, it’s <$200 for A3’s and a new pot (NOT the D. Allen Voodoo 69’s or Fender CS, great pickups though they may be).

We had some time to kill, setlist-wise, so we used Shakedown to close Set 2. Impromptu Dead Prudence ended up emerging. That C7 jam is the best part of Shakedown; it opens up so many options.

Swapped out the DiMarzio FS1’s for SDS-1’s in all three positions. As I was exclaiming to another member of this sub last night, it’s like having an overdrive pedal on your pickups. I gave it a third lap over the progression just to demonstrate digging into the pickups.

I tried to record it through an amp but I ran into technical difficulties so this is through my Fender (😳) Tone Master Pro, Twin/D-120/MD-421. Just to give a sense of the “overdrive” to which I’m referring, my Twin volume is just below 5. No pedals other than a Sarno Black Box before the TMP.

I got Anthony Coscia’s single coils in the mail last weekend and finally got them set up late last night. The neck (not used here) and the middle are wonderful. I’m using an SDS-1 in the bridge. And then into a Sarno Black Box and Fender Tone Master Pro (a Black Box is an absolute must for anyone using a modeler, by the way). Passive signal in the guitar.

I had been using the D. Allen Voodoo ‘69’s in the Strat for a while but I wanted a change. Coscias are probably the nicest sounding Strat pups I’ve ever had.

I decided to try out the new pups along with the Moises tracks. Still need to tweak the TMP but I think it sounds pretty good. Sounds even better through an amp. The SDS-1 in the bridge is super beefy. And it’s nice playing along without Jerry constantly showing me up the whole time.

Bonus rage quit at the end when I smash them after I keep messing up and crash land out of the solo.
