Less sweet soft serve ice cream

I dropped a friend off at Handea recently and we had a little time to kill. I had a hojicha soft serve from that Ito-en cafe that was really good and super subdued on the sweetness.

Now I’m craving the same. Any suggestions in central Tokyo?

Are those recent Korean yogurt shops close?

Viral tweet from purported Japanese WC tourist

Does this look super fishy to anyone else?

Axios highlighted this as a viral tweet from a Japanese tourist, but both the form and the content sound like stereotypes from the 1970s.

Just curious if y’all react the same way.

FYI: Ministerial order increasing in business visa capital requirement formally announced Oct 10, 2025, under Ishiba administration

Fee was apparently selected to be comparable to South Korea https://www.yomiuri.co.jp/politics/20250610-OYT1T50022/

Still AT BEST a flawed law, being implemented extremely poorly, but interesting that it’s not Takaichi’s baby.

Dumb observation about Hyouketsu “Mottainai”

I was channeling my younger days in Japan and drinking a can of sugary alcohol in the bath, and I took a look at the label.

So why *is* it called “mottainai”? Are they using some sort of low-waste, energy-conserving process?

No. It’s that the 0.2% juice content is made from fruit that was too unattractive for consumers.

That is to say “juice fruits.” Ugly fruits were always going to be made into juice and other products, so there’s literally nothing special happening here.

I’m not a big believer in marketing, and I bought it because it tastes nice and has a pretty can, but this feels cynical in the extreme.
