A community-built overhaul of Gears of War 1 on PC. Everything from the original game, plus:
New Maps
- GW2 multiplayer maps added alongside the original GW1 lineup
- Custom community maps Compatible
- Map selection now sorts cleanly: GW1 → GW2 → Custom (no more alphabetical chaos)
- Server browser shows the correct map name in every lobby
Modes
- Horde mode with full wave progression — survive 50 waves of Locust against ever-tougher enemies
- Horde+ (G2 variant)
- King of the Hill updated
- TDM mode
New: "Last Stand" (Horde-exclusive)
- Toggle in match setup: when ON, the wave ends the moment the last human player dies — no more waiting around for bot teammates to finish the fight
- Bots respawn cleanly alongside humans on the next attempt
- Off by default — classic Horde behavior preserved
Bot Support
- Add bots to any multiplayer match (including Horde)
- Bot difficulty toggle: Casual / Hardcore / Insane
- Bot pacing tuned: Boomer variants (Mauler, Butcher, Flame, Gatling) now move at proper combat speed instead of crawling
- Bots can now Mantle Up to reach objectives on raised ledges (no more idling at low cover)
AI Fixes
- Mauler bots now actually swing their flail in melee instead of standing next to you
- Standard Boomers properly butt-strike when right next to a player
- Boomer Gatling now uses its own Locust animations (was wearing Marcus's mocap)
- Ticker AI more responsive+
Controls
- Alternative gamepad layout (Gears 2 style): A = Cover/Mantle only, X = Evade/Roadie Run only
- Keyboard controls also split: dedicated cover key and dedicated evade key
- Both alt layouts feel as responsive as the default layout (no sticky/delayed cover entry)
- All inputs fully re-bindable
Communication
- In-game chat with re-bindable T (all-chat) and Y (team-chat) keys
- Team-colored player names
- (TEAM) prefix for team messages
- Drop-shadowed text that scales with resolution
Achievements
- All 57 original Xbox 360 achievements preserved
- **New Horde achievements** added (Dirty Dirty Horde, Hoard the Horde, etc.)
- **Xbox 360-style toast notifications** when you unlock one
- Achievements persist across sessions
Stats & Profiles
- **Lifetime stat tracking** — kills, deaths, K/D, headshots, takedowns, revives, rings captured, ring breaks, waves survived, wins, time played, COG Tags found
- Stats no longer wiped between sessions
- Per-profile saves — multiple players on one PC each keep their own progression
Localization
- Full translations for **English, French, German, Italian, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico)**
- All map names, mode names, settings, and UI strings translated
- New strings (Last Stand, etc.) localized in every language
Stability
- Fixed several long-standing crashes from the AI BOT BUILD release:
- Decal heap corruption GPF
- Material asset null-parent crash
- PhysX runtime conflicts on modern Windows (game now plays nicely with NVIDIA PhysX installs)
- Cleaner shutdown — no orphaned processes
Launcher
- **Standalone launcher** with built-in installer
- Picks your install location, downloads the game, sets it up
- Built-in update system — patches delivered through the launcher
- Multi-profile support (gamertag selection)
- War Journal (in-game encyclopedia)
- Achievement tracker with thumbnails
- Discord rich presence integration
Engine / Quality of Life
- Plays at native resolutions up to **4K**
- **Ultra-wide display support** (21:9, 32:9, super ultra-wide) — proper FOV, no stretched HUD, no letterboxing
- Correct widescreen FOV at every aspect ratio
- No more registry-required PhysX setup
- Cleaner audio mixing (OpenAL)
- Reverb properly preserved (always on)
- Bink intro videos with custom Redux branding
- Loading screens enhanced
- Xbox Dialogue Radio sound effect restored.
