Getting enough nutrients at social events

Hey y'all! Just wanted to seek some advice.

OMAD has been great. If I go to dinner with others, though, how do I make sure I eat enough food without looking like I'm being gluttonous? Specifically when I eat out at a restaurant. I just think about Whole food-style restaurants where it would be so difficult to get in 2250 kcal without ordering like 3 things.

Please don't go hard on me!

Adjustment period for hunger/headaches

Hey! I know electrolytes affect hunger but just curious on people's adjustment periods where insulin lowers enough that nutrients become available. 7 days down!! Transitioned from 2MAD. Enjoying it so far but still getting a gnarly headache during the metabolic switch. It clears up about 22 hours in and ketones are up a little bit (measured ketones one time before and after the headache and I think that was the difference)

Trying to avoid making my body dependent on electrolyte supplementation

Good morning,

Today marks day 7 of OMAD, round two and it has been great! I have been doing IF for about a year or so, settling at 2MAD but some circumstances led me to try omad for the second time. 24M, 5'9", 145 for maintenance. 3x lift and 10k steps, eating real foods with some refined carbs like tortillas. God provides! I lost weight with a calorie deficit, no fasting, but was graced with the science of fasting toward the end of weight loss and its physiology. I have, for the first time ever, been able to maintain weight loss! Insulin really is the major metabolic player for our body fat. I love the flexibility of OMAD because I can eat big, with others, whenever, since I'm only eating once a day. I do track in cronometer which helps a lot with seeing the data. The hunger hasn't been so terrible either which has been a blessing, and I think hormones are of course at play here: along with entraining our ghrelin, less insulin from fasting = more ability for the brain to hear leptin = less hunger.

The first time I did OMAD, I was getting some pitting edema, which I think was caused by excessive carb and caloric intake driving a high insulin response leading to fluid retention. I was eating 2800kcal with probably over 225g carbs. After that first stint I did go to the doc to make sure everything was okay. This second time starting OMAD has been waaaay better. I eat less carbs now (maybe I'm more fat adapted, who knows!), aiming for around 130g. I also eat less calories but don't feel starved in doing so, about 2250. I have been able to get a ketones urine measurement before my break-fast meal at dinnertime. The only issue I have had is some headaches and a little stomach hunger. I know that electrolyte supplementation is very common with IF but honestly, I don't want to get my body used to the supplementation.

Has anyone here been able to adapt to OMAD without electrolyte supplementation in the fasting window? Also, how long for the body to adapt?

I hope everyone is well.

Trying to avoid tech heavy portfolio

Good morning,

Been learning about investing recently and have settled to do a buy and hold approach with index funds in a taxable account. By God's grace I do have an emergency fund, and have set up Roth contributions as well. For the brokerage account I have 50% SCHB, 10% VIOO, 10% SCHV, 20% VXUS and 10% SPAXX set up. I did this instead of VT and chill because I wanted to not be so tech heavy. Is this a good long term strategy? I just feared that if something drastic happened in the tech sector that this would trigger a large correction in the market. I don't know a lot about this please go easy on me!

Integrating Japanese food philosophy to OMAD?

Hey everyone!

24M, 5'9", 150lb maintenance. I recently fell in love with the concepts of Ichiju Sansai and Hara Hachi Bu in my diet. Trying to apply the concepts to anything I eat, though i do love Japanese food. I read a book called "Eat Like Japanese," and binged some WIL videos and was fascinated by the concepts. I even feel better and am realizing that I didn't need as much food as I was eating (2800kcal, unprocessed foods, but it was what I was recommended based on activity level). I feel less "clogged up" metabolically and more able to move around with 2200. I don't want to come off like I'm appropriating, I just have really enjoyed applying the practices to my 2mad diet. I currently do 16/8, have tried OMAD in the past, and used to do 18:6 2mad earlier, but switched to 16/8 for being able to eat with gf.

My life is getting a little busier, so I was thinking about consolidating to OMAD, but I fear that it might not be enough nutrition. Does anyone have tips on how to do OMAD with these concepts to get enough protein and other nutrients? Preparing/heating/cleaning bowls can just take up a lot of time, and while I very much care about mindful eating, the time involved in separating everything out can interfere. Also, with hara hachi bu, I wonder if I would get full before getting enough nutrition in.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey all,

Desiring to experiment transitioning from 2MAD (18:6) to OMAD for satiety/simplicity and looking for troubleshooting. 24M | 5'9" | 152lb | 2800cal (Whole Foods/High Fiber) | Lift 3x week + 10k steps.

I tried OMAD for a week. Bloating and pitting edema (grade 2-3) were severe, concerned and went to a clinic. Doc confirmed normal CMP/CBC, though my BUN is rising. I have a 1-year history of mild anemia (low RBC/Hgb/Hct) despite normal iron panels. Also struggling with coldness and mild dizziness.

Some nutritional context: I've been drinking 4L/day for a year. I suspect chronic over-dilution. Maybe high water intake + insufficient salt likely spiked my Aldosterone/Vasopressin to hoard sodium in the interstitial space. Plus, my low RBC count likely reduces blood viscosity, making fluid "leak" into tissues (edema) rather than staying in the vessels. I experimented with shooting up my salt intake (I prefer on food bc., TMI, have some trauma of osmotic diarrhea) and reduced water to 3L: I actually sweated during a walk and my bloating decreased!

I love the satiety/convenience of OMAD, but I’m worried about the "Insulin-Sodium Lock" of a 2,800cal single meal causing that fluid leak. I'm currently in a slow lean bulk and trying to balance insulin/fueling without the electrolyte wreck.

Questions: Has anyone successfully managed OMAD with a history of edema or mild anemia? Should I stick to 2MAD to allow "dry windows" for my kidneys to flush sodium, or is there a way to make OMAD work with this salt-loading strategy? Any electrolyte tips?

Appreciate this community—IF has been a huge blessing for my health and faith!

*FYI, I used AI to distill my word vomit to prevent you from having to read too much. But I'm a real human, I promise!
