Application for work offer letter submitted, too late to quit?

My Chinese employer (training center) has already submitted the application to get my work offer letter, is it too late to quit and still be able to get a different offer letter from a different job?

I want to quit because the process of submitting said application was very rushed and had mistakes, it made me lose confidence in working with the school.

Will I be able to get another job that can submit another application for a different work offer letter, or will this previous submission impede me?

CELTA vs other certificates

I have a CELTA and my boyfriend has no TEFL certification, but is looking to start a TEFL program (not necessarily CELTA). We have both been applying for jobs in China and I notice that all the jobs he has been getting interviews for (with no TEFL) ask him for demo lesson videos with specific requirements on a very short notice, within 24 hours. I have not had this experience and I am guessing that this is because he does not have certification. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My question is: is CELTA the best path for certification or will any 120 hour TEFL suffice, especially with regards avoiding these extra tasks in the interview process?

Wrong Consulate Submitted for Work Permit

Hello, I recently accepted a position to work in a language center in China.

My Chinese hiring agent submitted an application for a work permit in China, but she entered the Washington DC Chinese consulate on the application and I live in New York. She says it cannot be resubmitted. To my understanding, I can only have my work visa processed by the New York City embassy because that embassy has jurisdiction over where I live.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this mistake? Can you transfer an application from DC to New York City once it has been processed?

What I REALLY want to do is QUIT this position, because the process of working with my hiring agent has been so confusing and rushed and this mistake seems like it will jeopardize my ability to get a visa.

Can I apply to other jobs and get a work permit from another employer, or is the fact that a work permit is already in motion going to bar me from getting a work permit from a different employer?

Sidenote: This issue is my fault as well, I said I would go to the DC Chinese consulate because I wasn't aware of the residency rules and I am visiting family in the area. But I told the woman I live in New York, so I wish she recognized the issue and hadn't put down DC and had clearly told me to go to the New York City Chinese embassy. She told me that you need proof of residency but I stupidly did not piece together that that means I can ONLY go to the New York City Embassy.

Bachelor's Degree Issue

Hello, I recently accepted a teaching position in China. For my Bachelor's Degree, my original diploma was lost so I had a copy from my university notarized and apostilled.

My potential employers say this is not sufficient. Is this going to be an issue for other jobs? Will a notarized copy of my diploma not suffice for Chinese immigration?

What does 2 weeks "Winter holiday" mean in China?

I notice a lot of TEFL jobs on echinacities name "2 weeks winter holiday" on their listings. What does this mean? Is there a set of dates that "winter holiday" applies to across China? Can you pick your dates? Curious if winter holiday refers to a national wide break or no.

I am planning on working in China beginning in the summer or fall of this year but I am concerned about getting involved with a predatory company.

I have recently been offered a one year contract at Hangzhou Best Learning Center. Best Learning Center is a private learning center company with locations across China. The contract is for 40 hours per week with 15-25 hours of teaching. 20,000RMB per month with 3,000RMB housing stipend.

My concern is that I saw a review on Glassdoor from someone who worked at a center in Shijiazhuang that the company "lies to foreign teachers" and caused difficulty for the reviewer to switch their work permit when they wanted to leave the company after completing their one year contract.

Does anyone have any suggestions for learning centers that will not pressure me into staying or obfuscate terms for working?
