Conriyan Zaudunyani (attempt #2)

Pleased with this result. I feel I captured what I was looking for in the mask. That and the circumfix brooch. (Truth shines gang)

Non spoiler Questions

  1. Do you think this guy’s Lance will be able to bear a dozen grass-rats?

  2. Do you know what grass-rats, fish, skinnies, and Nonmen have in common?
They’re all Sranc to the Tusk.

Slight spoiler Question

  1. Were you to live in this era, would you rather:
-own two chorae ( sorcery rendered ineffective against you + defense against the dark arts + worth a small fortune in case you wanted to cash out )
    Or
-own one nimil chain gown ( ishteberinthe style, because they have the right idea. )

Nimil. It’s Bakker’s mithril.
To the skin, as warm and soft as cotton. To the sword, as perfectly unbreakable as the dourest of blades. Perhaps worth more than chorae? I don’t know 🤷
Although with two* *chorae…

Unification Era- Conriyan Knight (unhorsed) vs unknown.

My lunch-break-take on the silver conriyan war mask.
In my head I typically picture of the Big Bad gladiator from Gladiator, or even an Anglo-Saxon style face plate (complete with mustache)

I’ll be throwing out some other random sketches that pull at my imagination, what do you guys picture the war mask looking like?

Also,
50 Conriyan v 50 Kidruhil v 50 Utemot Scylvendi, who wins on an open field? Why?

Also feel free to share thoughts on any cool scenes/units you love!

The Weapon Races of the Unholy Consult: The Oerim ( art + book discussion, spoilers )

The Oerim, by me, last night
Not much of a sketcher but I will doodle if I’m feeling it. With the talent and passion for the books on this sub I’m hoping to see more art + discussion👍

"Synthesized by the Inchoroi during the First Apocalypse, the Oerim, or 'skin-spies,' were designed to infiltrate human societies by taking the exact shape, voice, and memories of those they murdered." (TTT GLOSSARY)

You love them, you hate them, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of their affections.

While their appearance and biology are reminiscent of the thing, invasion of the body snatchers, etc. I find them to be a contemporary of the terminator. They are essentially flesh machines that have been designed for absolute mimicry, lascivious savagery, and utter devotion to their directive.
They worship their “Old Father”, the Inchoroi, the People of Emptiness.

Spoilers/discussion:

  1. are skin spies genderless? Or are there male/female types? When the skin spy infiltrator in the guise of the Empress attempted Congress with the late nansur emperor, he freaked out once he frisked her boner lol

.

  1. When the spy in the guise of SERWE was accompanying CNAIUR, I feel like it would’ve been obvious if he noticed that she had a dong, lol
  2. in TWLW, the thing called Soma intermittently unleashes its face and cranes the back of it school until it’s touching the top of its vertebrae, and then lets out a silent scream. I think it’s pretty clear that this is supposed to be a homing signal of some kind for the SYNTHESE to locate him, no question I just thought that was so gross and cool.
  3. in-universe (no Bradley tank/modern armaments) what would be the most efficient***/effective*** way to kill a skin spy? (Without sorcery, because I feel like AKKA would blast it into oblivion in about five seconds)
  4. Does anyone know if the spies are vulnerable to standard poisons? Drugs?
  5. These are importance questions to answer.. just in case these ever make it to our world/plane👌

The Weapon Races of the Unholy Consult #1: The Sranc ( art + book discussion, spoilers ahead )

Sranc.
( how do you pronounce this? Currently, I’m saying *sh-rah-nk in my head as I read through the White-Luck Warrior )

ART: BY ME, JUST NOW.
Truth shines, these stories (thank you RS) simply merit more art and discussion. So!

Here’s a spoiler-free line about a half-dozen pages into the Darkness That Comes Before:

"Nonmen, Sranc, and Men:
The first forgets,
The third regrets,
And the second has all of the fun."
— ANCIENT KÛNIÜRI NURSERY RHYME

Sranc.
These abominable caricatures bear the beautiful, symmetrical countenances of the Nonmen- the Cunuroi, the People of the Dawn.

Sakarpus call them “grass-rats”, for the same reason why Sorcerors call Chorae “trinkets”, to make light of dreadful things…
Scalpers call them something else.
Skinnies.

Their bodies long-yet-short, animalistic.
Narrow shoulders, hyena chests and ash-white nakedness covered only by scars, filth, necklaces of human teeth, and leathered Manflesh.
They bear notched iron blades, bows of bone, tanned-hide shields, and plundered tools of war.
Their limbs carry them at great speeds along vast distances across all fours; the fastest of Sranc can overtake the slowest of horsemen.
Their stark, hairless features display exaggerated mockeries of every whim of passion: pinched expressions of licentious fury, ecstasy, terror, glee, pain all paint their faces in turn..

The sound.
“The shrieks are too.. too many to sound of shrieking…the world simply..rings.
The sight.
“ Just know, that what you see is but the edge of screaming miles. The edge of screaming miles.” (TWLW, p.203)
“ the scrambling herd of limbs. The crazed white faces, those intent startling for their in human beauty, those that shrieked appalling for their infernal deformity. Glimpses rimmed in the light of destruction… stick-limbed apparitions.” (TWLW, p.217)

Consider comments to contain SPOILERS

My question for you is:
-you have to survive 10 lances worth (120 Sranc) out on the open plains.
Who are you surviving this with?

A) Cnaiur + Kellhus (as they appear in Darkness that comes before)
B) Ikurei Conphas + 10 kidruhil
C) Achamian + Geshrunni + Swathi Doll
D) 12 Agmundrmen + 8 Eothic Guardsmen
E) Esmenet + armored Bradley Tank + instruction manual (pilot optional)
