Why are NONE of the refrigerators on a generator?
Southeast Michigan got hit hard by a storm that knocked out power in a lot of areas. My store's market team and several redundant fulfillment team members spent all day emptying the coolers into dumpsters. DTE (monopolized regional power company) has our restoration estimate for 11:30PM on Tuesday. Power went out around 7ish on Friday.
There's no way replacing all that product every time the power goes out is less expensive than the maintenance on a generator dedicated to keeping even just the main backroom freezer and the main backroom cooler powered. If power goes out and appears to be staying out, all hands to grocery, shove as much as we can in the freezer and cooler, respectively.
Am I just overestimating how much the entirety of cold grocery costs or underestimating the cost and upkeep of a generator? Pretty much anyone from metro Detroit can back me up, DTE sucks and their infrastructure goes down way more than it should for what we pay them.
