What's going on with the edge of this penny? Never seen one like it

Its definitely part of the coin, 100% not debris stuck to it. Is this an error?

Is this PMD?

Normally would write this off as smash damage and not think twice.

However, the reverse has me seconds guessing myself.

The "M" in "Unum" isn't distorted, stretched, or pulled out of alignment like i would expect it to be.

I still think its most likely PMD, but am not sure. Any input?

Hello,

My grandpa has a 15 gallon, narrow neck glass jug filled with pennies, nickels and dimes. His brother left him the bottle of coins when he passed a while back.

Both of us are itching to go through them, but there is one small, very disgusting problem.

There are two dead mice sealed in the jug with the coins. The mice were already in there when my grandpa took possession, his brothers wife said they've been in there since the early 2010's. The bottle opening is sealed with tape, and its too narrow to get a hand in there to remove the mice.

That being said, we both still really want to search the coins.

I don't ever want to clean coins. But they are a bit of a biohazard in their current condition, and cleaning them is not optional at this point.

Heres my current plan, let me know if im going in the right direction:

- Use a pair of grill tongs to pick the mouse carcasses out of the jug

-Dump the coins out onto a towl to let the dead mouse juices dry off

- Start to scoop piles of coins into a strainer/sieve

- Dip and swirl the coin sieve in a bucket of lab grade 99.9% isopropyl alcohol for 15 - 30 seconds

- Dump the alcohol dipped coins on a clean towel to let the alcohol evaporate

- Repeat until all coins have gone through the alcohol bath

Thoughts?
