Laser Eye Surgery Experiences in the UK?

Hi everyone - I’m recently new to the sub. I’m in my early 20s and have been researching LASIK for a couple of years now. I am significantly long-sighted in both eyes (+4.00) and also have astigmatism in both. Since about the age of 15, I’ve worn daily disposable contact lenses.

Originally I began looking into laser eye surgery to free myself of having to wear contact lenses everyday. However, after joining this sub and seeing the horror stories that so many of you have had to endure, I’m very much reconsidering this as an option.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any negative experiences of LASIK in the UK, as this is where I’m based? Thank you so much, and I’m so sorry for the horrific experiences so many of you had with this surgery.

Ear keloid removal surgery

Hi guys! I recently posted on this sub about a large keloid I developed on the cartilage of my ear, after a piercing healed very badly. I decided to have it surgically removed and just wanted to provide some information on this if anyone else was looking to go down the same route!

I am in England and chose to have surgery followed by an immediate combined injection of a steroid plus 5-FU. After I have the stitches removed in a month’s time I will then have 5 more rounds of the injection monthly, to prevent regrowth.

The surgery itself was unpleasant, but not horrific. The local anaesthetic meant my ear was completely numb and the surgery was finished in around 45 minutes. That evening my ear was hurting but the painkillers I was given certainly helped with this, and the soreness subsided after a few days.

The first photo is a picture of my keloid, which steadily grew for around 3 years. The next 2 images were taken a few days after the removal!

I hope this helps anyone that’s looking to have a similar procedure, as I found the whole thing a little bit scary in the lead up to it. Please feel free to ask me any questions!

Desogestrel effectiveness after restarting?

Hi there! I’m feeling stressed due to conflicting advice about Cerelle (Desogestrel), which is the minipill I have been taking for a few years.

I had to temporarily stop taking the minipill for 3 days, as I had run out of packets. After restarting, the NHS website and online pharmacy pages say to wait 48 hours before having unprotected sex. As such, I took 3 full days of the pill before to be completely safe.

However, out of curiosity I was reading the leaflet inside the box the other day which actually tells you to wait a full week before having unprotected sex (unless you are starting it during your period, which I of course did not as I only stopped it for a few days after being on it for multiple years).

I am now very stressed due to this conflicting advice, as I was trying to be safe and now I’m not sure I was. Regardless, I will do a test in a few weeks to be sure. Does anyone know why this advice is different and has anyone had any experience with restarting Desogestrel? Thank you so much.

Best treatment for large ear keloid?

Hi there! I’m from the UK and after a failed helix piercing about 5 years ago, I’ve been left with a large keloid on my ear. It unfortunately makes me rather self conscious, and I can’t remember the last time I wore my hair up because of it. I’m looking into the available treatment here in England, and have been assessed by the NHS (who told me I would have to go private). What would be the best treatment option here - I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed! Any help would be so appreciated thank you!
