out-of-state dealer purchase: refund of overpaid registration and sales tax?
Bought a car in another state at a Toyota dealership and brought the car to my home state. I paid registration fees and taxes to the dealership, and they forwarded that amount to my local DMV.
My state's DMV calculated that a refund is due, but instead of refunding me directly, like a DMV phone rep initially said would happen, they are refunding the amount to the dealership, and that I then need to collect the overpaid amount from the dealership.
Is this normal? Thanks
