Trimalleolar 6 weeks 5 days post op, for those that transitioned from NWB, Skipped boot straight to shoes, share your journey!

So I am now 5 days into walking. Had my first outpatient PT today. My plantar flexor is at 100%! Was corrected using walker and had my first attempt at trying walking up a step. That was hard! All my bedrooms and laundry room are upstairs. Anyway, started walking with crutches and tried even with 1 crutch. How long did you go from NWB to walking without any device? Like how many weeks did it take?

6 weeks 2 days post trimalleolar op- sorry I have so many questions! Can anyone tell me when they began weight bearing in regular shoes how many days/weeks did it take to ditch your crutch/walker? Please share your journey.

I am in my 3rd day walking from being told to weight bearing and I was able to full weight bear for a little while. Is this normal? Did anyone experience this? There is really not much pain, but still has swelling which isn’t even too bad. Every time I start to walk again from sitting or laying down, I get stiff then my ankles loosen up again.

It is happening pretty fast for me. I truly believe God’s hands healed me. The power of prayer is real. I pray for all of us to be healed and go on with our lives! I pray in less than 3 weeks I can truly drive like what my surgeon says!

6 weeks 2 days post op trimalleolar. When did you feel comfortable to be barefoot?

My surgeon had me WBAT and I am doing pretty on the walker. Every initial start my ankle feels stiff and the more I walk it loosens up. On first day, I noticed I was able to stand on both feet without support just to test it out. 2nd day i was more and more able to bend my foot. No boot just straight to regular shoes. My surgeon felt boot would restrict range of motion and delay progress and I feel he is right! For those who went this route at what week did you get rid of walker/crutches? My surgeon clearance to drive at week 3.

Trimalleolar Ankle surgery 6 weeks Post Op appt today.

God is sooo good!! Prayers really help! Surgeon says my bones healed really well. He says to skip the boot and go straight to regular shoes. He has cleared me to drive in 3 weeks and even do high impact aerobics in 6 weeks from now! I am ecstatic. He did say I will still have swelling for awhile. That’s ok, God is good!!

Trimalleolar ankle surgery 5 weeks post op Struggle sleeping

I am having such a hard time sleeping. Been 6 weeks since injury. Longest sleep is probably 4 hours. The past several nights only 1-2 hours. My mind races and I feel my breath catching. How are you coping with mental anxiety?

Hi everyone, I am dealing with a trimalleolar ankle surgery on my right foot. Broke my ankle on 3/25/26 was put in an external fixator until my 2nd surgery that happened on 4/3/26. Now currently 4 weeks post op and scheduled for a follow up 6 weeks post op on 5/14 and am hoping to get the go signal to bear weight. My surgeon says I should be able to drive by week 9. I drive my kids around with their sports. Can you guys share your experiences? I started ROM last Friday and at first it I could barely move it and now about a week later, I have been able to have better control. I can barely sleep and my appetite has decreased. I am taking trazodone for anxiety and depression and to help with sleep. I keep telling myself this is a small blip in my life and soon enough I will get my life backs. Sucks being on the couch all day!
