A Dark Song (2016)

tonight’s watch was A Dark Song, surprised this one doesn’t get talked about more.

it’s basically two people isolated in a house performing a long occult ritual, and the movie is completely committed to that setup. It’s slow, tense, repetitive in a way that actually works, and the longer it goes on the more uncomfortable the whole place starts to feel.

what i liked most is that the occult stuff feels serious instead of just being there for creepy imagery. There’s a real sense of rules, patience, and consequences behind everything they’re doing.

it won’t work for anyone looking for constant scares, but the atmosphere got to me. Really strange, really bleak, and definitely one I’m glad I finally watched.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

tonight’s watch. somehow i had put this one off for years.

The first half is easily my favorite part. Just two people in a morgue, slowly finding things that make less and less sense. It’s such a simple setup, but the movie gets a ridiculous amount of tension out of that basement without needing to constantly throw things at you.

I also liked how every new discovery about the body makes the situation worse instead of actually explaining anything. By the time things really start going wrong, the movie has already done most of the work.

The second half gets a little more conventional, but it never completely loses that creepy feeling.

Really solid movie. I can see why this one gets brought up so often.

The Night House (2020)

finally watched The Night House and I’m kind of surprised I waited this long.

What worked for me more than anything was how quiet the movie is. It never feels desperate to throw a scare at you. A lot of the tension just comes from Beth being alone in that house, trying to understand what her husband was hiding, and slowly realizing that almost every answer creates another question.

Rebecca Hall is basically carrying the entire movie and she’s great. Beth could have easily been written as the usual grieving horror protagonist who just wanders around looking terrified, but she’s angry, sarcastic, exhausted and pretty difficult sometimes. She actually feels like someone whose life has been ripped apart rather than a character waiting for the plot to happen.

I also loved the way the movie uses the house itself. There are several shots where your eyes start trying to turn empty spaces into a person or a shape before you even know what you’re supposed to be looking at. That was much more effective on me than most jump scares.

The last third gets a little more literal than I wanted it to. I think some of the earlier mystery loses a bit of its power once the movie starts explaining what’s going on. It didn’t ruin it for me, but I probably would have preferred it to leave a little more unresolved.

Still, this is exactly the kind of horror I love finding. It’s creepy while you’re watching it, but the part that really works is that some of the imagery sticks around in your head afterward.

Not perfect, but easily one of the better horror movies I’ve watched recently.

The Blair Witch Project works so much better when you stop waiting for the movie to scare you

Rewatched The Blair Witch Project last night and I think I finally understand why this movie works for me now when it really didn’t the first time.

Years ago I remember spending most of it waiting for the witch to show up or for something big to happen. This time I barely cared about that. The part that got to me was watching three people slowly realize they have absolutely no idea where they are.

Once the map is gone and they keep ending up in the same places, the whole thing starts feeling hopeless. They’re exhausted, pissed off at each other, barely sleeping, and every night there’s some noise outside the tent that they can’t explain. Nothing needs to jump out at them because by that point being stuck in those woods is bad enough.
The scene where they walk all day and somehow end up back at the same log they crossed earlier bothered me more than anything I remembered from the movie.

And that last stretch in the house is still one of the creepiest endings in horror. No explanation, no big reveal. It just ends exactly where it needs to.

Definitely one of those movies I appreciate a lot more now than I did the first time around.

How can i use Hermes Desktop if my Hermes instance is running on a VPS?

I’m interested in trying Hermes Desktop, but my current Hermes setup is running on a VPS rather than on my local machine.

Is it possible to connect Hermes Desktop to a Hermes instance that’s hosted on a VPS?

Anyone tried MiniMax 3 with Hermes?

I’m considering trying the MiniMax M3 the $20 plan with Hermes, but I’m a bit concerned about token usage and overall cost efficiency.

Does it burn through tokens quickly?

How does it perform for day to day use and longer agent workflows?

Would you recommend it over GPT 5.5, or is GPT 5.5 still the better choice overall?
