I’m considering retrofitting the complete OEM navigation system from my E39 530d into my 520i. I already have everything needed for the retrofit.

However, I’m also planning to install CarPlay at some point. Would it still be worth installing the original navigation first and later adding a CarPlay, or should I skip the OEM navigation retrofit and install an aftermarket CarPlay head unit straight away?

I prefer the OEM look, but I’m not sure whether the extra work involved in retrofitting the factory navigation system is actually worth it.
