PPL Written

I'm working towards my PPL, I currently have approximately 30 hours but haven't taken my written exam yet. My flight instructor recently told me that I should take my Private Pilot Knowledge Test (written exam) just before my checkride.

I’m a little confused because I’ve heard that many students take the written much earlier in their training.

Does this sound like good advice? Is there a benefit to waiting until close to the checkride, or would it be better to complete the written sooner?

I’m trying to understand whether this approach is in my best interest and whether it is a common recommendation from instructors.
