i might be a problem player

the usual disclaimers: throwaway for privacy reasons, english not my first language, long time reddit lurker first time poster.

background: first-time players, party of three plus GM, we play a homebrew of episodic nature for a little over a year now.

two sessions ago GM introduced a character who was supposed to keep the party safe, mostly by being way too overlevelled (we are lvl 2, character is lvl 15), let’s call him The Guy. The Guy is quite stand-offish, prefers to keep to himself, doesn’t seem too keen on joining the party but tags along for whatever his own reasons are. my character grew quite suspicious of him and took to either directly antagonizing him or verbally provoking The Guy in hopes of eliciting a reaction, but nothing really came out of it.

at the end of the last session, one of the players asked if The Guy can join our party. GM announced that The Guy will be tagging along on the next leg of the adventure. i’ve been mulling it over and in the end decided i wasn't entirely comfortable with the arrangement. The Guy is a wizard with the same subclass as my character, and i'm already somewhat insecure about my own abilities as the party's wizard. having a character who is ten plus levels above us and occupies essentially the same mechanical niche was making me feel overshadowed before we'd even started.

went to GM in private, explained my reasoning, asked if GM would be comfortable playing out a proper scene between us wherein my character airs out their grievances, then see where we can go from there. GM disagrees with the premise, says The Guy is too stoic to react and will only engage if approached with kindness. i argue The Guy is highkey suspicious within story reasons and has yet to prove himself worthy of grace; argue that (from my perspective) a character joining an established group should show some initiative in trying to fit in; argue the group should not be expected to accommodate him by default just because we are a somewhat polite bunch. things get a bit heated, i let my frustrations as a player be known, explain i feel overshadowed by The Guy just by the power imbalance alone. GM thanks me for the feedback, says he’s now uncomfortable with running The Guy and promises to write The Guy out next session, effective immediately.

now here’s why i’m struggling: i wasn’t trying to get rid of The Guy. i’ve seen GM prep some story hooks for him, he most definitely had some part in the story ahead, the party seemed to have taken to him well. i hoped for a character-to-character conflict and didn’t expect GM to just nuke The Guy out of the narrative. i now feel immensely guilty for even bringing my frustrations up; i feel like i ruined the fun for the party and altered the intended narrative.

i’m at a loss as to how to even process all of this. should i have kept my mouth shut and just let the story unfold as intended by GM? do i come clean to the party about why The Guy is now out of the picture or should this be kept between GM and i? should i apologize to GM for being too forceful? i’m honestly very lost and worried i broke some unspoken rules of dnd etiquette. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
