Small hole in exhaust silencer - immediate concern or okay in short term?

Hi all, got properly under the car to fix the exhaust mounting and have noticed this small hole in the silencer - I think it's gone all the way through?

I don't think it was caused by the exhaust mounting breaking, but I'm sure that didn't help!

Keen to understand if this is a big immediate concern, or if it's drivable with this in the short term? Will this whole part need to be fully replaced or can it be spot welded?

Thanks as always for your advice .

Suggested jacking points to get at the exhaust?

Hi all, looking to get underneath the car to fix my exhaust mounting.

I have two axle stands and a hydraulic trolley jack for 2 tonne weight (so nearly three Trabis!)

Wanted to see if there are any specific jacking points you'd recommend?

My plan was to lift at the back with the jack and also prop up on the axle stands which should give me enough clearance to fit the three exhaust mounts without a full lift/ramp needed.

Thanks

Do I have a gearbox oil leak?

Hello again. Some timy wet spots on the ground under the car today after a drive, and it definitely looks a little moist at the engine/gearbox junction, with one or two oily drops showing. Also looks like a bit of axle grease?

Is this common and should I be concerned?

Thank you for your help

New Fuel Tank - Stainless Steel or Steel with Galvanized Inside

You will all be sick of me and my questions!

Replacing a few parts of the fuel system this week (new fuel line, repairing the tap with ethanol resistant parts and cleaning and replacing parts in the carb) and also plan to see inside my fuel tank to determine if a replacement is imminent or can be put off.

I have the simple tank with no fuel sensor or return needed and I'm looking at two options:

Stainless: https://www.trabantwelt.de/Tank-Edelstahl-ohne-Ruecklaufanschluss-und-Geberoeffnung-TW1-Trabant-601/28007

Galvanized steel: https://www.trabantwelt.de/Tank-ohne-Ruecklaufanschluss-und-Geberoeffnung-TW1-Trabant-601/27798

As I mentioned in another thread, I can only buy E10 where I am located, so I am wondering if the extra €100 is justified to go stainless?

Thanks again as always for your assistance

Exhaust Mounting - Old Rubber Hangars Tore

Hi all, as per title, the original rubber hangars (all three) tore on me today and my exhaust was hanging down.

I see on Trabantwelt there are two mounting kits for sale:

Standard: https://www.trabantwelt.de/Befestigungsset-Auspuff-Standard-Trabant-601/22195

TW1: https://www.trabantwelt.de/Befestigungsset-Auspuff-TW1-Trabant-601/20546

I am guessing that the correct kit for me (original exhaust on a 1982 P601S) is just the standard one, and the TW1 kit is only for the full replacement system they sell? https://www.trabantwelt.de/Abgasanlage-Sparset-TW1-Originalausfuehrung-Trabant-601/20533

As always, thanks for your help!

Multi-part question - 1. Missing bolt between engine and gearbox? 2. Is there/where is the earth strap to body?

Thanks very much for all your help on my carb question yesterday.

Two follow-ups:

  1. Am I missing a bolt connecting the gearbox to the engine as circled in the attached? If so, I believe it's the 55m M8 hex bolt in the second and third photo.

  2. In the 4th photo, I've circled the earth strap from the negative terminal of my battery to the gearbox. Is there another strap that earths to the body? If so, where?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Confirm my carb please?

Hi, I am finally the proud owner of a 1982 Trabant after wanting one for over 20 years.

It has the old style carb and I am 95% certain the number is 28HB4-1 (but part of me thinks the last digit could be a 7?)

I think the last number for old carb was 28HB4-1, but welcome your thoughts please!
