17 week passport wait over

17 week passport wait over

My mother's application was submitted on 25/04/26 and has been beset by a myriad of delays. The application wasn't received until 27/05/26 due to a 2-week hold up with customs (for unknown reason). We actually thought the item was lost.

Then on 21/07/26, she received an additional documents request for documents already included in the original application. We clarified with web chat and they were subsequently found the next day.

Presumably this led to the application being filed with additional documents, so we complained to web chat on 18/08 which led to the printing and dispatch notification appearing today 20/08!

Glad this whole process is over with!

End of a 15 month chapter!

Finally completed it! Passport received today (thank you Royal Mail posties working in this 32°C UK heat!)

Looking forward to the new opportunities, especially for work and travel.

For those interested in timeline

FBR submitted June 2025 and accepted April 2026.

I wasted no time applying for the passport, with application received on 27/04/26, witness contacted 16/06/26 and passport printed 23/06/26.

Also noting the new passport design was released today but I must have used the very last of the current stock!

EES process with FBR but not passport?

Is there a consensus about whether presenting a FBR would excempt one from completing the EES (Entry/Exit System) process upon arrival at a Schengen border? I'll be travelling on a UK passport.

The EU website is quite clear that EES only applies to non-EU nationals, but clearly proving this without the Irish passport is likely to be problematic.
