Strongly considering it! How’s it going to be? Did you guys regret it?

Guys,

I did some research on the lean fire India, subreddit and they all said that I have enough to lean fire in India. I’m kinda done, only cuz I miss my family and parents. I feel bad that they have to get old without any help. I wanna spend their last days with them. But the issue is that I have barely enough. Would be nice to have some cushion.

That being said, what’s life like once u return. I’m sure the traffic, heat and garbage will be a pain, but besides that how’s day to day life from those who have returned? Many years down the road, do you regret it or not? What are some of the stuff u like? Some of the stuff u hate? Let me know.

Worst case if I do decide to go to work there, is it the work experience pleasant or excruciating? Please let me know everything I should watch out for?

Ready to pull the trigger on Lean FIRE, but struggling with a high crypto allocation. Stay or exit?

Hey everyone,

Long-time lurker here, finally approaching the starting line. I’m 37 and preparing to Lean FIRE soon. My plan is to move to a low cost of living area internationally where my baseline housing is entirely taken care of and my living expenses will be very minimal.

Financially, my core safety net is solid: I have a good chunk in traditional index funds/401k and solid cash reserves. However, I also have a significant, decent-sized portion of my net worth sitting in Bitcoin.

Because my retirement timeline is incredibly long, I’m wrestling with the classic "yield shield" vs. wealth preservation dilemma. On one hand, part of me wants to completely de-risk, exit the crypto allocation into boring old VOO/VT, and watch it compound with zero stress.

On the other hand, the math on geo-arbitrage means my local living costs are already covered by my non-crypto assets, so this BTC could technically act as a massive long-term growth engine if I just leave it alone.

For those who have transitioned into early retirement with a crypto allocation:

  1. Did you scale back to 100% traditional equities before pulling the trigger, or did you keep a "moonbag" as an inflation hedge?
  2. How do you psychologically handle the sequence of returns risk when dealing with crypto's massive swings?

I know nobody has a crystal ball, but given where the macro landscape stands right now, I'm trying to gauge whether it's smarter to exit to traditional buckets today, or stay parked and wait to de-risk during the next major market expansion.

Where is everyone's head at regarding the current cycle timeline are you expecting the next major structural bull run to hold off until closer to the 2028 halving, or do you think the institutional ETF inflows are permanently changing the old 4-year cycle dynamics?

Would love to hear how other early retirees managed the transition without letting crypto volatility disrupt their sleep. Thanks!

Anyone Here Lean FIRE’d in a Tier 1 Indian City After Working Abroad? Need Reality Checks

Hi Reddit,

I’m seriously considering Lean FIRE in a Tier 1 metro in India within the next 12 months. My current job situation in the U.S. has become unstable, and once this role ends, I’m planning to move back to India rather than continue chasing another high-stress corporate job abroad.

Financially, I think the numbers can work if I live carefully. I already have housing covered, some rental/FD income, and investments that I plan to leave untouched for long-term growth. The idea is to live modestly in India for the next 10 years while my U.S. investments compound.

What I’m mentally preparing for is the lifestyle adjustment.

Right now I’m used to:
- spending fairly freely
- traveling internationally
- eating out often
- living a more “Western” upper-middle-class lifestyle

But after returning, I’ll likely need to:
- budget much more carefully
- avoid lifestyle inflation
- become comfortable with a slower, simpler life
- live well below what I was previously earning

For people who have returned to India after years abroad especially those attempting Lean FIRE or semi-retirement what should I realistically expect?

Some questions I’d love insight on:

- What were the biggest psychological adjustments after moving back?
- How long did it take to feel “settled” again in India?
- Did you struggle with boredom, identity loss, or feeling left behind professionally?
- What unexpected expenses or lifestyle traps should I watch out for?
- Did your relationship with friends/family change after returning?
- How different did year 1 vs year 5 feel?
- Any regrets or things you wish you had prepared for beforehand?

For context, I’m planning to spend a lot of time studying a foreign language, improving my health, reading, traveling slowly within Asia, and generally trying to build a lower-stress life instead of maximizing income endlessly.

Would genuinely appreciate honest experiences and advice from people who’ve done something similar.

Lean Fire in India with about 3CR and a fully paid off home. Is it possible?

Hello,

Is it possible to retire in India with about 3CR and a fully paid off home in India? 1.5 CR invested jn an apartment in India and 1.5 Cr in snp500 in USA. Is this a realistic amount to actually retire and live a comfortable life in India?

Note: the fully paid off home is in a T1 city. So no rent. No kids or responsibilities to anyone else but myself. Do have some health issues so a good health insurance is required and some money for meds.

Hey I hear cost of living in Thailand is infinitely lower than in the states. Can anyone help determine what a reasonable lean fire number will be for a modest living in a city like Chiang Mai? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
