I’m the sole beneficiary of my grandfather’s life insurance policy, and have been separated from my spouse for a year and a half. We’ve been living in different states for most of that of time and have talked twice. We never shared finances and they don’t know about the benefits. Neither of us has filed for divorce yet because it just hasn’t been on our priority list. Separation was not mutual but amicable and I don’t expect a fight over property. Are they entitled to half of the benefits? I received them well after we started living separately.
